Australian clubs would not let their kiwi players play for NZ like Filipaina and the Sorensens, how gutless they were!

I played touch footy with & against Gary Dowling earlier that summer of 1980 : for a solid guy he was very fast : incredibly agile and deceptive - RIP my friend.

Filipaina and Mark Graham, who played for Brisbane Norths in 1980, both played in this test. As they did the next time NZ played Australia, in 1982. The Sorensens played quite a few times against Australia in tests, but Cronulla did refuse to release them in 1980 and 1982. But that was one club, not a general rule.
