That was a legendary Australian team. All time greats in virtually every position.

How at 6:35 is the knock on by Australia in the tackle then a penalty for offside when the GB player picks up. I get that Grayshon has to touched it but the first infringement is a knock on surely? So many baffling decisions in this by the ref.

I was at this game. Came to cheer on our lads but ended up marvelling at the Aussies. Watching this now, I saw for the first time why Boyd got sent off. I went for a wee when it happened. 😁

I still think they were fitter back then, the ball never stopped moving and they didn't have unlimited interchange when you went of you didn't come back on

That kicking incident still annoys me...the British guy, laying on the ground kicked Boyd FIRST !

1982 State of Origin went three games, that's the difference. A test match against England isn't as hard as playing QLD or NSW. Send as many players to the NRL as they can, thats the answer.

@@ZIGSVIDS Agreed. The Invincibles were the result of our State of Origin competition. Anyway, the Pommie crowds appreciated them.

So at this point in the series its Aust in front 67 - 10 with 13 try's to nil. Price and Rogers had fair trys disallowed too. That stuffed the average.

Steve Rogers robbed of a fair try at 24'. When Sterling puts in the kick he's on the 10-yard line and Rogers is not even in the frame at that point. Les Boyd rightly sent off, but he was responding to the GB player on the ground lashing out at his legs with his boots. Should have been sent off too. GB got away with a lot of dirty play in this series.

The Les Boyd send off was a joke (without sending the GB player). It was absolutely in retaliation for exactly same first perpetrated by the GB player. Even Boyd’s kick was less than ‘like for like’ because he kicked with top/side of his foot. The GB player lashed out with the underside of his boot (heel). And Rogers definitely well onside (by a metre).

Boyd's send off. Dalgreen struck out in a attempt to tag Les Boyd well after Boyd was clear of the tackle. Rastas the blind ref got it wrong. I think Boyd should be commended for restraining himself and sending Dalgreen off the field as a eunuch.

Steve Rogers was the highest paid player at that time earning $50,000 per year. In 2024 Kalyn Ponga in the NRL is paid $1,400,000 per year which is the equivalent of $430,000 in 1982. There are currently 14 players in the NRL that earn $1,000,000 or more per year.

it was worth more back then because cost of living is never really reflected in 'inflation' calculations. Here in England despite wages being massively less back in 192 (and I went to the 1st Test in Hull), house prices were easily 20 times less than they are now, even in Northern England. People could actually afford mortgages/rents. So Steve rogers buying power back home in Aus would likely not be hugely different, certainly not 3 times less. There is certainly a lot more money for players in the NRL than Superleague, in relative terms the money has gone down for players given the lack of money in the sport here.

Yeah I remember him being a great all rounder but I didn’t remember his step being so prominent. Now that I watch him it was a much bigger part of his game and often with multiple big steps in one play.

GB had no chance no matter who played but that was a diabolical team selection from a clueless outdated coach. 3 captains in 3 tests says it all. Did better for an hour in the 3rd game with some.younger players
@tonyfranklin8306

Don't think Johnny Whitely had much to do with picking the players, it was a selection board, he was literally the coach. it was who you played for not how good you were and the selectors got it wrong and then just swapped and changed, it was insane! Old lags like Grayshon, Ward, Gorley, even Nash at 33 were past it, bringing back Holmes at 6 when Woods was far in advance of him was a mistake, Woods wasn't going to do owt in that first test with the forwards being absolutely blitzed! Eddy Syzmala of Barrow should have been in front of Dalgreen (and Ward in the first test) but again, didn't play for a 'big' team. I'd even dispute having Norton in the team in tghat first test, he was already well on the wane and Harry Pinner should have been our 13 We were still banging it forward at first reciever, predictable passing that was far too deep. lambs to the slaughter!
