Thanks for uploading this. I really enjoyed taking the journey with you. Engine swaps like this reminds me of how guys make hot rods when they don't have money to buy new parts. Back in high school I pulled the 350 2bbl from my 71 Impala and put it in my 78 Monza.
@ChiefClassics29 күн бұрын
You're a brave man doing that with a Monza! Those are tough to work on, especially with V8 power!

Jeff you’re really diligent about explaining every bit of work on all your work. Enjoy your work. That was a great engine out of the old Grand Prix. Thank you for sharing your work. 💯👊👍❤️

Informative video. 301 motor mount brackets are slightly longer than brackets for a Pontiac 350, 400, or 455. I have a WS6 '81 Trans Am with a transplanted '73 400. The original owner blew up the turbo 301 sometime in the early 90's. I had to buy a set of 400 motor mount brackets so I could get both motor mount bolts in. With the 301 brackets on the 400, I could only bolt one side in because the other side was about 3/4 inch out of alignment.

That car certainly deserved that motor in it hope it lasts you a very long time ! ❤

Smart move using the 400 flex plate , the 301 flex plates were prone to cracking ! I bought a couple of old Pontiacs I was told had a rod knock and it turned out to be broken flex plates
@ChiefClassicsКүн бұрын
I bought an 80 TA that was the same way! Didn't know the 301 plates were prone to it! Thanks for the info

When removing broken bolts, it works better to weld a wide washer on first then the nut. The success rate is a very noticeable improvement plus you can get after it without wrecking the part surface.

Pretty good odds getting the busted bolts out of the exhaust manifold!
@Zelaznogsiul-63Ай бұрын
Why did you back the bolt on the harmonic balancer after it was torqued? I don’t meant that as a critique , but I have never seen that done before. Great video.

Should have did timing chain & gears (steel) & oil pump on that 400 while it was out & you wouldn't be touching it again......

Fix that kick down and put some dual exhaust on there and you're going to have a proper trans Am. That thing is very smooth and nice

Not a comment, but a question. What 10 bolt rear did you use on your s10 swap?
@Zelaznogsiul-63Ай бұрын
210 horsepower on the turbo according to what I seen and heard, I have one but it doesn’t feel like it has them, but being poor I got to work with what I have and being a pace car that for some reason is a collectible because of the color and interior, but if I had the money I’ll put a 455 and turbocharge it to keep it turbo like it is, replace the transmission with an overdrive unit or a six speed, that is just me dreaming.

I had a 1981 T/A I bought new with the 301 with the electronically controlled carburetor and ignition. Biggest disappointment I ever bought because it was a total pig and the dealer's mechanics didn't know how to work on it. It was too bad because it had every option on it in the book except the turbocharger and looked really good black with the gold snowflake wheels but got rid of it less then a year later.

Instead of using a razor blade you can barely hold on to aimed at your hand try a knife that has a handle and run the blade down the length holding it flat against cover . Also I have opened my vice up wide and laid the cover upside down to hold it .light pressure of course

I find those Harbor Freight screw style engine levelers very nice for pulling engines compared to just a chain. It lets you tilt the trans tail down so the balancer can clear the core support. If you put some lube on the jack screw, you can turn it while the engine is attached.
