I first went to Reno in '88 when Rare Bear was running wild. What a difference Stead is from '80 to '88. The sounds haven't changed though. Boy, I really miss that place. Too late to go this year, maybe next. Lefty in his 38, what a showman!

Awesome video history. Notice no T-6'S. They cancelled the T-6 Class for the 1979 and 1980 races due to the midair in 78.

Actually this is Wiley's other racer "Jeannie" which later was sold to Jimmy Leeward and he named her "Leeward Air Ranch Special", she finally ended up as the "Galloping Ghost" which crashed in 2011.

Well, Jeannie is actually "Jeannie Too" and that was one of the 2 racers but Jeannie was the camoflauge racer.. as far as the details mentioned about being sold etc., you may be right.. but the chrome racer is definitely Georgia Mae..

Okay I have a correction to make and you were correct in a sense and so was I. So Wiley did own a plane which was sold and became the Galloping ghost. But it wasn't Jeannie Too or Georgia May , it was one sold in the 80s. Wiley does own the camouflage racer Jeannie Too and did sell the Chrome Racer Georgia Mae but neither were the plane that became the Galloping ghost

My father is still w the company and works under John still to this day. :) He drove truck for Wiley in 1986 and would drive for Wiley to the races in the 80s and maybe the early 90s..

45:05 Precious Metal looked a whole lot different back in the 1980’s. No special canopy, rolls-Royce griffin, counter-rotating propellers. Pretty much a stock Mustang.
