Loved this horse - Francome showing that you could ride round the inside when Aintree was far tougher than the glorified hurdles course it has become

He learned from his boss, Fred Winter who was doing it in the 50s and 60s when the fences were even tougher than 1980. Check Willie Mullins in 83 Foxhunters for as close to the inside as you could get

Didn't know Andy Pandy ran in a Topham, Always wonder if he would have won the 77 national if he hadn't fallen at 2nd beechers - interestingly he never ran in the national again

Probably - he won the Whitbread 3 weeks later so was in top form. Ran in the 1981 Foxhunters too, but long in the tooth by 1980
