very interesting swap. but i wounder, is the shift linkage the same?
@vw64manyrd9 жыл бұрын
+73VWsuper Good call the linkage is not the same. I had addressed that in some video clips but they didn't make the final cut as I get very winded when describing what I am doing... (boring) but I hope I have a set of linkage around. I may have used up all my 5 speed stuff as I have done this conversion more than once. Will make a video when I get to that point. Got to get the injector pump leak fixed first. Thanks for watching!

I have a 1.6 diesel from a rabbit that we are using in a project. it will have a radiator but no heater. Where should I attach the 2 radiator hoses? The motor has 3 places where a radiator hose could hook up
@vw64manyrd5 жыл бұрын
I dont have an early rabbit to look at right now but as I remember the larger waterpump connection goes to the lower rad connection and the upper rad connection goes to the t-stat connection on the front side of the head. The smaller waterpump connection goes to the "bypass". There is also a connection on the end of the head for the heater. Even the old rabbits have several hoses and it would e best to look at a complete rabbit to understand it. Thanks for watching!

I tried to do a video for this but it wasn't really worth posting. What I found looking at several transmissions is that the axle shafts should spin no matter clutch in or out and it didn't matter if in gear or not or even is hooked to a engine or not. If you spin one one way the other should spin the other way... all of mine acted that way even in gear with engine attached... by your comment that the axles wont spin it sounds like it might have a problem... I don't know... Best of luck with it! Rabbits are cool no matter!

+5Zylinder The belt was new about 400 miles before the car was totaled. The water pump is not howling or leaking at this time. Belt checked when injector pump changed next video...like new. Running well now. Thanks for watching!

Hey, I just got a nice 81 rabbit hatchback project. My first vw project. I have a question hoping you can answer. I just bought a transmission for it, a 5speed. It's just sitting in basement for now, but when I press on the clutch the, where the axels are suppose to connect, don't spin. Is that suppose to be like that or is neutral suppose to happen with a lot of force (when it's in the car)? Is it a bad transmission?
@vw64manyrd8 жыл бұрын
The clutch will be attached to the flywheel on the engine. The clutch arm on the gear box just moves the center rod inside the trans to press the clutch. Try moving the gear selector and then rotate the input shaft and see if the axle/s also rotate. Each position of the gear selector should produce a different amount of rotation at the axle. Later this week when I am at the barn I will make a short video showing what I mean. Rabbit vws are a cool car congrats on the project. Thanks for watching!
