Earl said he’s going to bowl 10-12 tournaments a year, and “not be much of a threat” in the 80s. Let’s see...Bowler of the Year in 1981, 1982, and 1983, and his second three peat in winning the PBA National Championship (1981, 1982, 1983). So much for not being a threat.

Guppy Troup bowled great from that way outside line. Earl had that one bad ball which cost him any chance to win. Thanks for the video.

Why are you talking about bowlerland in the Bronx ? That place is a dump. Almost as bad as Gun post. Pretty close Did you ever bowl at Van Nest or Fiesta Probably never bowled at Astor lanes in the Bronx

Why would you talk about Johnny petraglia when JR was never on tour If you're gonna bring them up You might as well bring up Steve Fehr and his son Jeff even Steve's Wife Nancy was on the women's tour. But no family has 3 generations of PBA titlists other then the Mccunes Don. Eugene. Kevin You completely forgot Don Johnson and son Jimmy Johnson I'm still laughing that you brought up Petraglia Jr who doesn't even bowl tournaments

Gil Sliker was such a great bowler. If he could have won that first singles title he would have won a lot more.

The 7-8 pins is not a split! The ball must be able to go between two or more pins without the head pin to be a split. If the head pin is on the lane with the same set up it's a washout.

Super Touch was the sponsor of this tournament. Super Touch was the name of that index finger device that four of the five TV finalists used in this tournament. Earl Anthony was the only finalist that didn’t wear a Super Touch device.

Scott Schoppert I think 1980 and 1981 were the only two seasons where players used the Super Touch during the television finals. I would guess the incentive money was discontinued after 1981. I remember seeing a Super Touch for sale on eBay one time. I think the packaging said that it was supposed to have the same benefits as a full wrist support. I don’t know just how effectively the Super Touch worked. However I would imagine the incentive money was a big reason that a considerable number of players were using the product from 1980-81.

Johnny has a 212 average and didn't make the show. 8 year Olds average that today due to cheater balls and easy lane conditions. Today's bowling sucks.
