Great to relive some of these old 49er classics…..especially since this was the game in which they beat the Rams for the first time since ‘66, and also with the likes of the late Fred Dean, whom the 9er’s had recently acquired from San Diego, and the late Freddy Solomon and Dwight Clark. May they rest in peace.

They say hindsight is 20/20, but looking back, you could say the Rams lost a couple players during this era who should have made them a better team. They should have kept Jaworski at quarterback, and Hacksaw Reynolds at linebacker. If they did, maybe they win Super Bowl XIV, and challenge for another NFC championship in 1980 and 1981. But we'll never know.

The 49ers had unique characters one of whom was #14 kicker Ray Weirshing. He would never look at the goal post. Watch him starting at 14:30, he never looks up the entire time he's out there. @robertmayer72323 жыл бұрын
@@zimmerman1031 You missed the point. Dean was traded in '81 for FUTURE early draft picks in '83, i.e. the 49ers pledge to give specific early round picks. Neither side of the negotiation table knows who's going to be acquired. They don't even know who will be in the draft in that future year. They only know that the 9ers will give their early draft picks and the other team will get early picks for hopefully-great players, at whatever positions they want/need for their team. Teams do that - sacrifice future picks for what they like and need now. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," as the saying goes. Like the draft, it's always a gamble as to whether it works out, and who will end up getting the better deal. It's always a crapshoot.

@@robertmayer7232 The way the OP posts it, he says the game is in 1981, but the player was drafted to the team in 1983, which makes it physically impossible for him to be playing for them in 1981.

If he did say that, he just misquoted. I already know this game was in 1981. I remember watching this on TV. Also commentators mentioned Lott as a rookie. Any old Niner fan knows Lott was drafted in 1981. Dean I believed was drafted by San Diego in 1973, I can see how they can mess up talking about this. Also as someone who hated Wyndell Tyler as a Ram was happy he was traded to the 49ers in 1983, he's still a Ram on this game. At 47:28 "Frank Corral's 11th FG in the 1981 season. "
