Thanks for posting. These truly were the glory years of the NFL the 70s and 80s and maybe it did early 90s. Did you notice no gyrations after getting a first down and no complaining that are referees. Hate the way that current NFL players act during games absolutely hate it !!!!

So many years of struggling and Walsh even at one time thought he wasn’t coaching material.bill never gave up and he believed in what he was doing and years later to find out how meticulous he was in a playbook and even drilling Montana on his footsteps with the precise steps in a passing play to require a receiver to be open is astonishing to this day.bills theory in preparation for his football team changed everything in pro football during the 80’s.

I never realized that. 1981 was the first full year i started to watch football, and I was only 10 which I believe was the last year of Metropolitan Stadium. While I have seen footage of many old games from that stadium, never noticed that both teams were on the same sideline. I will have to look for that now.

For some reason the 49ers did not have capes to wear on the sidelines in 1981, and there were some cold games and rainy games they played in, not just on the road, but in late season home games too. The 49ers look like they are freezing standing on the sidelines with those gold jackets.
@chrisuncleahmad6667 жыл бұрын
On the surface, this had potential trap game written all over it for the 49ers. This was the week after the memorable 45-14 win over Dallas. And right after this was a big-time 3 week stretch: Rams, at Steelers, Falcons. Right in the middle of the meat of their schedule, a game that had look-ahead potential.
@Miatacrosser5 жыл бұрын
When you have 10 total wins in the last 3 seasons and you are just starting your turnaround. I hardly think you even consider any game a gimme to overlook. If there was a team they overlooked this season that would've been Cleveland. But losing that game turned out to be a benefit to the team because when they lost in week 11 they were starting to think a little to much of themselves. It brought them down to earth and readied them for their Super Bowl run.

I'd say the defenses carried the day. To hold that great 49ers offense to just one rushing TD and they didn't make that one easy. Even though the Packers lost, their D had nothing to apologize for. And what can you say about that newly revamped 49ers D with those talented young backs!

starting around 51:37 rare beautiful intelligent screen catch and run . gb rb Gerry Ellis catches a hard screen pass to catch . runs towards his side of field but then cuts "across the grain " diagonally to the other side for a great run . that is very intelligent running

Packers played at least four games a season in Millwaukee, unit 1994. Too bad the 49ers don't play at least two games in San Francisco, at Oracle Park, each season. I remember watching the 49ers play in Millwaukee in 1960 versus the Packers on TV. Hornung had a great game, as he would in December in the mud at Kezar in SF. Also, the stripes on the 49er pants were way, way too wide then. They have narrower ones now.

They wanted to have all the home games at Lambeau. Millions of dollars of expansion and improvments have been poured into Lambeau since. There was some kind of agreement in the old days but it expired in 1994. The last game in Milwaukee was vs the Falcons. Brett Favre scored on a 10 yard run, diving into the endzone on the last play of the game that got the Packers in the playoffs.

Milwaukee was a great fam venue. Much larger fan base in Milwaukee ofcourse. Most states population was southeastern wis. But remodeling of lambeau and just business issues took forefront. The travel and need to make Lambeau"HOME" and a place to fear and be proud of were also factors. Look whats happened. Lambeau is considered one of the best home stadiums regarding wins and mystique. So much can be said for making the Milwaukee games just impractical. Lambeau magic.....
