I'd forgotten just how blurry the world was back in 1981.

David Coleman. The best. A Murray Walker corrected for errors.

Star-studded field. Filmed with a GE toaster.

It was a stud field, we don’t get as many great athletes like this in today’s races. Sadly.

This race should be held in 1983. The commentator said Steve Cram was 20 years old then. Actually I can barely remember I saw it on TV when I was 13.

Cram was born on October 14, 1960, making him an old 20 in September of 1981, when this race was held.

WTF; was this filmed by Zapruder?

Why do the greatest runners run so relaxed and with so much poise that it looks almost like they are just out for a jog when in reality they are going at blinding speeds? It is very deceptive looking.

Хотя на этих соревнованиях принимали участие такие великие бегуны как Крэм, Ауита, Биле, Эллиот, Уокер, Гонсалес, Абаскал, Центров у т.д и т.п, рекорд Мэйри держится и по сей день

Hell, they won't even show this race on network TV any longer. And here we are now, a couple of weeks after the 2013 edition, and videos of the complete mens/women's races on the web are scarce as hen's teeth.

The Meltham mile in Yorkshire was won in a time of 3 minutes 24 in 1993. If the 5th Avenue mile was downhill for 440, uphill for 440,then down and then up for the final quarter it would be much more interesting but it appears to be three quarters downhill. Maybe they should run it the other way around on alternate years like the Comrades marathon. See who turns up for the hard version.

@blue47ify In the UK - I don't think the use of "coloured" rather than "black" started to die out until about the mid 80s. Many people continued to use it in the mistaken belief that it was less offensive than "black"!

Did the Commentator say " the Colored , South African" at 5:24 or is that just what i thought i Heard ..i thought they stopped using that in the mid 70's or early 80's?
@truth85084 жыл бұрын
He did say colored South African. ....and what would you have possibly preferred that he say? Seems totally correct whether 1981 or 2020.
