My favorite drive ever. I use it mostly like people use a Klon because the initial boost sounds so damn good before it goes into distortion.

This is fairly well built. I wish they made a mini pedal version of this circuit.

Two of the electrolytics are the Nichicon Muse, which is a step above the Fine Golds. Those Wimas are the polyester mks line. Rean (made in china) are the cheap version of neutrik. I like these vids. Thanks

Another great teardown! Rat derivative or not, the 1981 Inventions DRV sure is well built and full of quality parts! As for suggestions, I'd love to see the insides of a Metasonix TX-1 or TX-2. Since those are incredibly rare and expensive however, I'd settle for a Beautiful Noise When The Sun Explodes if you happen to come across one. Cheers!

Can you make a teardown of any Chase bliss audio or darkglass pedal?
@erikvincent58462 жыл бұрын
I tore down an old Darkglass B7K, but back then it was through hole. I traced a schematic on it. Now a days, they are now smd... and I believe stuff might have gotten changed.

The PCB says "Engineered by Jon Ashley @ Bondi Effects". I was not aware. Does that mean it was designed/built in Australia?
@graybenchelec2 жыл бұрын
More likely that Bondi just did the PCB design.

@@BlakeC27 I thought that there are additional mods and tweaks to the circuit, but I'll take your word for it. I knew that these were clones of Cesar Diaz's, but I didn't know to what extent
@alexisdrosopoulos2 жыл бұрын
@@BlakeC27 yeah that's not the mods I'm talking about. That's more of an operation adjustment, not really an effect tweak. You just make the electrons work as they should 😂 They're quite "hot" pedals right now and they seem pretty well made. I just left it in the suggestions box.
@alexisdrosopoulos2 жыл бұрын
@@BlakeC27 Silicon doesn't need that kind of circuitry, a trimmer will do, but it's definitely a selling point from a marketing's perspective. I'm not one of those "magic mojo charge carriers" kind of guys but I can't help to question what the hype is all about.

These teardowns are very interesting to watch. As a suggestion for some point, I would be curious to see a teardown of a pedal that uses Nu-tube tech. (The new vox ones would be easiest to obtain). Would be interested to see if the circuit to that surrounds the nutoob is more like an tube amp or more just a drop in for any sort of fet. Thx for the interesting vids!👍👍

Good idea! Guitologist did a couple videos on the nu-tube I believe, would be worth checking out!

I’m new to soldering. I noticed how cleanly you’re able to wick old solder. When I do it, it never goes that smoothly. Usually the area of the board as well as the wick itself look pretty messy. Does this have to do with the quality of the wick I’m using, or do I just need more practice?

A good soldering iron is #1. I recommend it whenever asked; the metcal SP200 is a killer iron for the money. You can usually find the power supplies used

Could you do a boss fz-2 vs behringer sf300? Noticed the sf300 doesn't have as much low end and I'm wondering how complicated it would be to modify one to have as much bass as a fz-2

@@erikvincent5846 relay is EA2-5NU, KEMET or NEXEM, some kind of joint venture I suppose. It's DPDT, which should allow for grounding the circuit input in bypass, yes.

@@BlakeC27 yeah the EA2-5NU is electromechanical.

@@BlakeC27 Might be economy of scale too though. You can use SPST momentary footswitches for tap tempo, where "clicking" footswitches for tap tempo is at least annoying. So you get to just buy one footswitch for all your needs.
