I have the 6” nickel finish model 25-5. By far my favorite revolver. One day I will get a Colt SA but for now I love showing off my 25-5

One the best handgun cartridges ever developed. And a very fine platform in the N frame. You can still get a new one but only in 5" barrel.

I feel good when I see other folks with this great revolver. I purchased my 25-5 in 1990, new ( still have sales receipt and original box ) for the high price of $275.00. The box is dark blue with the name Smith & Wesson Double Action Revolver in white and light blue lettering on the box. Made in U.S.A 2100 Roosevelt Avenue, Springfield Massachusetts USA. manuals and warrantys stil in the box . The Revover was wrapped in brown wax paper with S&W monogram.s on same. The box states 6" barrel. But no matter how you measure it, 5 and13/16" is the result. They Just rounded it off to 6".

The M 25 Was one of my trail guns. Four years ago I got a modern Classic version. Not long after that a 25-3 showed up on Gun Broker. The Anniversary model. Now I have 2. Still haven't shot either one. My next trail gun is a vintage M27.

That's a great looking revolver, congrats on the find! I've got to step up my revolver game - only have my 65-8 at the moment. A 686+ is probably next on my list of acquisitions (when I have the budget surplus to justify it!)

Model 65 is a stainless model 13. Stainless model 15 is a 67 stainless model 19 is a 66. A nickel 25-5 was a sweet find. I have a 6” one like your other one with all box and papers made in 1980.

The 625 is the stainless version of the model 25. The Mountain Gun was a variation within the 625 family. It was also available in 44 magnum in the 629 series. Personally I prefer the 45 versions and to that end I just put a 25-2 45 LC on layaway hope to pick it up next week 6.5" blue. I'm afraid I may have a terminal case of Smithitus. Currently in the hoard are 3, 29s 6.5", 8&3/8" and 10" an 8&3/8" M57 Nikeld and several K & J frames in 32, 38 and 357. Plus probably half a dozen semi auto ranging from Model 39 to M&P 40 to SD92.0. And surely more to come. I'm afraid for a Nikeld 45 LC like yours, I would sell my soul to Nancy Pelosi.

They probably did not lose track of their presentation case. More likely it just fell apart after a decade or two like mine did. They used a very poor glue and the wood is not the best. The felt is just foam and it dissolves if your gun has oil or Hoppes on it. That yours has hung together is unusual. Many have not. The 4" M25-5 is a more practical carry gun, and many good type 2 or 3 holsters fit it. I may soon bead blast and parkerize my own. Debating it. If you reload stiff try and find the old grips Pachmyer and Hogue made. They make Elmer Keith loads feel mild. Skinny triggers from a Model 58 are occasionally available and make for quick 2nd shots, if needed.

@@SapperGentleman I use mine when hunting. We have very thick underbrush around here and having to crawl on hands and knees to get to a downed deer is not unusual. Sometimes just 10 yards of visibility. An awkward position to encounter a bear and sometimes a supposedly dead deer turns out not to be and is still full of fight. A few quick, good hard cast Keith type SWC well placed at 1,100 fps or so takes the fight out of a lot of things. A Hornady 250 gr (or 300 at 950) XTP at similar velocity hits like an internal grenade. I sometimes wish they had made a fixed sight version similar to the M58 (4" .41 Mag), but S&W missed that boat. A 4" Redhawk helps fill that void.
@SapperGentleman10 ай бұрын
@kenibnanak5554 A fixed-sight model in 45Colt woulda been dreamy.

@@SapperGentleman 1,000% agreement and there was call for it, but S&W ignored everyone until the era of the revolver had passed. I honestly have no idea why they imagined .41 Mag would captivate the police market when all the cops wanted a .45. Sadly by the time they yielded a little with the Model 25-5 the .41 Mag (and sales of the M58) were already dead. Bowen did a good business for a few years converting M58s to .45 Colt, but his work was way pricier than an M25-5. Then there was the 3rd flub of S&W in their decision to push 8 3/8: barrel versions, and later the 6inch versions while delaying the release of the more desired 4" versions out of fear it would hurt sales of their model 19s (they were correct) and even then shiny Nickel 4" was the most common variant which isn't what you want on the street at night or when hunting.

Hate to break it to you, but as much as you love the 45 Colt version of the model 25, you haven't lived until someone turns you loose on a 45 ACP Target. Then you'll drive yourself nuts searching for a 1917, and a Thunder Ranch...........
