A 40 year old brain cell made me type in Suzuki GS450 and bingo! I ordered a new GS450S and rode it for several years. The S if I recall had bar end mirrors and gold wheels. Damn good tossable motorcycle. Thanks for this zip down memory lane.

I have the original red 1980 GS 450 S with the quarter fairing and bar-end mirrors as it came from the factory. Being their first 450 twin with counter-balancers, it rode smooth as butter, (unlike my brother's numbing 360 Honda!). I bought the GS in '82 with 7,000 miles on it for $1100 in Florida, reduced the rear sprocket by 5 and increased the front by1, as I had no intention to race the thing. Put in 20W50 Castrol and drove it all over the US several times; averaged 75 mpg, usually over 300 miles per tank. At 30k miles, took it in to see if it needed anything, but they told me there was nothing to adjust. At 88,000 miles in '88, quit my job, loaded up the bike, and traveled 30,000 miles to all 50 states. Now it has 118,000 miles on it, never been apart, been parked since then because I bought a red 1981 GS 450 like the one in the video for $150 (not a typo!), with 9k miles on it and rode that one 10K miles before life happened and I haven't ridden either since. Thanks for the memories of an awesome bike! Now I've got a hankering to get them running again and go for a ride while I still can...

I remember these bikes had a reputation for being screamers. Usually the best bike in its class in the late seventies, early eighties.

My neighbour had one of these and a couple big rare Ducati’s. Right in his living room. Also has a couple super rare old Ferrari’s in his garage. I saw it for sale one day. Not sure if it got sold but I hope when I go back there I can get it. He had it posted for 2800$. It was brand new

That one sounds nice. I have a 1981 GS450S , Black and Red with bar end mirrors. 4500 miles and real clean, not as polished as this one, but all original. Still trying to find a replacement for the windshield.

Return now for a trip down memory lane to the halcyon days of the universal Japanese motorcycle. Eminently capable and practical, affordable and economical. Dependable weekend ride or daily commute a turn key steed ready for service. Tubeless tires and pump gas service and just plain fun.😊

Jeff, Aka. The Manic Mechanic, restored that bike to Mint Condition. Jeff is a very rare and highly talented, devoted employee, that works his ass off, and is a major asset to your beautiful business empire. I'd love to have the honor and privilege of meeting him someday. Maybe, if I'm lucky, I will get to meet him, when I come up there. I truly love his gorgeous and sweet Jack Russell Terrier, Jackie.

I didn't know they made an S model, either that or I just completely forgot about it. It's only been about 40 years. Nice bike though.

its tough to spend money on old bikes when you can buy newer more reliable ones for same price or cheaper

You're not looking then. Screaming deals on well maintained old bikes like this can be found all the time. And I'm not sure what could be more reliable than a 70s Japanese bike.

@@natewebs just bought a 1983 GS 450 l the cruiser version for 150 UK pounds. It's legal on road. I've cut the frame rails and "konged" it. Set of k&n filters, jets, straight through pipes and it's never missed a beat! Other than Suzuki's infamous electrics from that era lol great bike!!! Rather ride my GS then my Gixxer
