I really enjoyed bringing my war imagination to life with this tank. My father was the manager of Ball Bros. Furniture in Elizabethton, TN, and one day I was walking through when the commercial for this tank came on and froze me in my tracks. You can imagine me standing there as this way cool powered tank was on all the TVs at the same time and just overdosing me with "I got to have one!" We finally got it, and I made a thrilling array of obstacles for it out of lincoln logs to be destroyed.

This was my favorite gi joe toy period. I would spend hours making dirt fortresses to roll it through.

I'm really loving your reviews. Since I collect superhero, Transformers, and Star Wars, a lot of those reviews seem to be fast and quick for the ADHD generation! I never had one as a kid, didn't want to spring for the Target set, but I have a BBI woodland camo Bradley as a newer MOBAT for my 25th Steeler. I got saddled with a POS M2 in the service but still have a soft spot for the old piece of junk! Ah, memories, thinner armor than my car, stalling engine, poor viability! The M2 had it all

Really awesome review again, Kevin! And an excellent test on the mobat for its climbing ability, i was quite surprised that it can climb backwards and was dissapointed that it can't climb from the front! :(

I think you're right about that motor, Hasbro has used it before in the 1987 Radio-controlled Crossfire! I was going to purchase a cheap non-working one a while ago and found out it used a Mabuchi RC-260R motor!
@formbx25712 жыл бұрын
@skabcat242 Back in the 80's it averaged about $20 at department stores like Sears. It might have been a few dollars cheaper at places like KMart though.

Hey Kevin, I just recently got 2 Mobats (an '82 and a '83) and a HAL in a lot for $5(US) off ebay. Both tanks work, and I'm missing some small bits. I noticed in cleaning them, there are more variances. the cupolas have different lenghts for the square pegs, and the directional pieces they connect to have different heights too. also, the '82 power switch has a circuit board, but the '83 does not. Thought I'd share, as I'm guessing you never had to do significant cleaning on yours.

Back in 1987 Hasbro did make an R/C off-roader called the Crossfire with a driver figure named Rumbler. I don't have one... yet.

@stickitupyourasteric The MOBAT goes for +/-$20 by itself. The figure adds another $25 because he's hard to find complete.

I remember YoJoe's forum having a thread on repairing the MOBAT motor, but I can't find it now. I haven't opened up any of my own, but I've always been curious. I'm sure there must be somebody out there who's repaired/modified/radio-controlled one!

Thanks for this awesome review...it was the reason I bought 2 on ebay in MINT condition for only 10 bucks for both...what a steal! The motor doesnt work on one but who cares since their going to be used for display on my 25th GI Joe collection i have!

I've still got this, I bought it not realizing what it was until a few years back and it's in pristine condition too considering it came from a charity shop without the box. I've gotta ask, what's a replacement battery pack and commander worth? And where can I obtain both items?
@formbx2578 жыл бұрын
+warhammernerd52 The battery door should go for under $10, but the Steeler figure goes for $30-$40 when complete. There are two versions of the figure (depending on which Mobat you have). 1982 straight-arm figures are rare and hard to find with the hands unbroken. Later swivel-arm versions are more common, but the crotch piece easily breaks. His helmet and visor are common but his Uzi pistol is rare (beware of sellers giving him the wrong Uzi pistol and calling it "complete"). All can be obtained on Ebay. Check out online stores that specialize in vintage toys & parts. The honest ones sponsor collector forums like YoJoe.com or HISSTank.com in those forums you can find many more stores listed and members willing to sell and trade.

+106476265411907948843 Was just rewatching old reviews and noticed something interesting. I have the original MoBaT from 1982 that my brother got for Christmas. But interestingly, it came with the later version machine gun. So I believe the machine gun with closed rectangular hole was a running change during the 1982 production run that carried over into the 1983/84 version.

Ok two questions so would the Canada version be worth more then the U.S version ? if i had a chance on one or the other what would be my best investment ?
@formbx25710 жыл бұрын
I think the US version would be better for the future. The US is the bigger market for GI Joe toys.
