@@jackrutherford-1 i've been working on the same bike trying to tune my carb. how many turns out did you go on the air and ignition screws? It also keeps trying to overheat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your time

@@abbyking8249 It's hard to compare one carb to the next even though it is the same model. My carb isn't completely clean and probably a little blocked in the idle jet. I'm a little rich at about 1 turn out on the air/fuel mixture screw. And then I just adjust the throttle stop screw to where the rear wheel barely turns at idle. What makes you say that it keeps trying to overheat?

Thank you for posting! I'm trying to figure out the no spark on my '82. I believe I have tested the CDI as being OK. I think maybe I need to pull the stator, but don't have the specialty tools. Is there a way to check the stator without removing it?

Hook up a test light to it. It should light up the test light on 3 of the 4 wires.

@@jackrutherford-1 Ok thank you for the response! I assume a good battery must be installed, the switch on,and the test light would come on when using the kickstart. It is not electric start.

I believe the stator on my '82 is bad. Apparently they are not available. I'm considering replacing it with an earlier points version. Have you or anyone done this? The CDI would be eliminated and I'm not sure what else?

‘81 had the old style rack. How did you diagnose a bad CDI? I’d be curious to know. It could have been a number of things. I really like my ‘82. Love the 2 speed transmission. I don’t think it’s that much better on takeoff than a single speed, but it certainly does improve low end on mods.

I diagnosed it the hard way. Actually someone tested it with a multimeter at first and said it was fine. So I went through all the other usual culprits and then in a fit of desperation, I replaced the CDI and lo and behold, that was the problem. But I should make a video on a more systematic way of diagnosing no spark issue.

Where do you get a CDI? The one I bought off Ebay does not have the same connector block. Still thinking about replacing the stator and CDI with a points version, but not sure how.

eBay. Cdi for nc50, nu50 and nx50 are the same.

I’ve noticed the turn signal lens and possibly the kill switch are same as the Honda Spree.

It’s a nice little bike, you might want to check the signal housings. If I remember correctly those signals run on a single wire but the signal housings have their own ground which usually rusts out, I still haven’t worked on my express yet, I still need to swap out the handlebar kill switch to check for my no spark problem. If this continues I might have to locate a magneto set up.

@@jackrutherford-1 I had an 81 and I had a problem with my signals and thanks to the shop manual I was able to clean out the rust, and if your signal flasher fails Napa auto parts Carrie’s an electronic one that is black that’s good for 6 and 12 volts and it even works on LED lights. It seems that as long as it gets a signal it will make all the mentioned work with no problem.

Could you do a video on how to set the kickstart spline and gear lobes and spring loading before closing the casing on a 1980 NC50? I can’t get my kickstarter to rewind

@@jackrutherford-1 I have a motorized bike but it was a headache constant issues so I switched to the electric stuff
