As a warning for others, I just did this job with same push-rod tubes into Siebenrock cylinders. The collars are positioned by a machined shoulder on the tube. On 2 of them the collars moved away from the shoulders, and as result after I thought I was done, the tubes had been over driven and I had to revisit the job. The collars are just press fit and either the cold shrinking or the whacking with the hammer moved them. As you do the installation you have to move your head and look under the collar to make sure the collars remain in place against the shoulder. Thanks Brook I enjoy visiting your site.

Thanks Brook, I've been watching all of the RS videos for maintenance on my 1983 RT. It is very helpful to see the work being done live.

Jason, I hope the rebuilds and documentation I published on my web site (www.brook.reams.me) over the past 12 years can help you keep your RT on the road for many years to come.

Hi Mike, As a retired old fart, I do have time to devote to this work. And, it keeps me out of the bars ... well, most of the time. :-)

Silver Fox, well, there certainly is a lot more work to be done before I get to ride this project for the first time.

Peter, It works well to keep that end of the tube cold while driving it in.

@@BrooksAirheadGarage Thanx! I will do it the way you showed. Love your channel, really valuable information!

Holy shit that is A LOT of loctite! All you need is one line of it down the threads. When you run the stud in the loctite will be dragged across the entire threaded surface

Great video! Can you drive out old push rod tubes and replace with the stainless steel ones? And is the measurement of 1.8-1.9mm the same for a 75/6?
@BrooksAirheadGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andey, I show doing that work here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZSwlnmVidKDotk The cylinders, push rod tubes and push rod tube seals changed in 1976 when the 99 mm cylinder sleeve was introduced in preparation for the 1000cc motor introduced in 1977. That said, I've been told by Tom Cutter that the 1.8-2.0 mm clearance is a good distance for all the airhead push rod tubes. Best. Brook.

When water freezes it expands. Feels contradictory with the shrinking of the pipe. It's only a thin-walled pipe so I wonder who wins: the ice or the metal.
@BrooksAirheadGarage2 жыл бұрын
Koen, the metal wins and the water extends out the ends.

I’ve done this job twice, both times the seals split! I can see why now. I have noticed that the old seals are a different shape to the newer version.
@BrooksAirheadGarage4 жыл бұрын
Bikers Welcome: I'm glad this is helpful. IIRC, the seal shape changed when the 99 mm cylinder bores were introduced in 1976 to support the 1977 1000cc motors. So you have to select the seal shape for your cylinders.
