Thanks Brook , covid lockdown here and spending time doing long past service on my 76 R100/7 . Needed to replace the swingarm bearings . Built a bearing puller similar to yours , and no problem . Wonderful .

Very ingenious tool you made brook!

When I did mine I found it easier to clamp the swinging arm in a vice. This kept it stable while using the extractor tools.

Thanks for your reply i think you are lucky that you got your stuff on time with Dan., Cycle works takes a month to process an order ? if that was the case i wouldn't use him .when cycle works put's the tool online for sale and the address being in MO it won't take more than 3weeks to ship or process an order. Dan should post the time line on his website that he may take a months to process an order.

Hello Brook I've been watching your rebuilds for a couple of years now and find the information on your channel indispensable. Specifically, I soak in the detail on the subject you are speaking on. I am working on an R100 1981 and would like to purchase and use the bearing puller in the red case. Can and would you share that info?

Anthony, I bought it on amazon. Here are the various kits they have: --> www.amazon.com/blind-bearing-puller/s?k=blind+bearing+puller

Thank you for the kind words. But I’m still an amateur apprentice genius 🤪

@@BrooksAirheadGarage no you really are a genius. Unfortunately I am not able to do what you did and I don’t even have all the equipment. My bearing went out from the swingarm and now I was driving with a moving swingarm. Just painted the R100/7. What a mess.

Brook - Your informative videos have been instrumental in my restoration of my first BMW (83 R80 RT). I do have a question...like you, I'm tearing down the bike for powder coating. How do you PC the swing arm without destroying the VIN sticker?
@BrooksAirheadGarage2 жыл бұрын
Jim, you don't. It gets destroyed. However, the VIN is also inscribed on the lower right frame tube near the sticker so the DMV can verify the VIN.

Hi Brook, i love your videos and you make it very simple to work on the bike. After seeing you using cycle works steering head puller i ordered one and it's been almost 3 weeks and so far i didn't get tool , no one answers, no email reply and i called Dan and left bunch of messages still no response. I will see for couple more day and ask for refund. Bad experience with cycle owrks.

Hi Sam, I'm sorry you are having a problem communicating with Cycle Works. It is a one man, part-time shop. Dan had to get a full time job to pay the bills. Sometimes he gets behind and opts to just work on making tools to fill the orders rather than answer email or the phone. It can be frustrating, I know, and in these times, I imagine it's even harder for Dan.

That support ring you made is brilliant. How do I find that large washer at Ace Hardware? Is it in the plumbing section or hardware? Do you know what purpose it's sold for? Thanks.
@BrooksAirheadGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Garth, I just rummaged around in the hardware area looking for a large flat washer. I'd print out the picture with the measurements and take with you and ask them to help you find one.

Hi, just did a valve job on my 98 R1100RT, unfortunately the timing view hole rubber cap fell into the case while trying to put in. Will it cause me grief if I just leave there or does the motor have to come apart due know? Thanks for any insight on the matter. Al
@BrooksAirheadGarage5 жыл бұрын
Logjam5, I'm not familiar with the R1100RT enough to tell you. I'd call your nearest BMW MC dealer and ask the advice of their service department. I suspect you aren't the only one who has had this happen.

Hi Brook, will this Blind Puller work with the Snowflake Wheel Bearings ?
@BrooksAirheadGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Malcom, It may work. I haven't tried it since I had the Cycle Works tool. One thing to keep in mind with the snowflake wheels is early wheels had 100% aluminum hubs so you don't use a bearing puller to remove the bearing race. You have to heat the hub to about 250 F so the bearing drops out. Similar procedure to install the new one. That's takes a lot of heat since aluminum is an excellent conductor. Here is the video of removing the bearings on the later version with the steel insert which allows use of a bearing puller: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnmkoqiJnrqin68
