December 1983, the reigning world champion, Steve Davis, had set his sights on yet another title, the UK championship. After streamrolling all of his opponents, he met Alex "Hurricane" Higgins in the final. The first session, seemed to be consistent with Davis' form throughout the tournament, having ended in a 7-0 lead, but then Alex switched his "A" game on..........

Alex had such brilliant cue action just a natural player,a genius really , I saw him at the crucible once just mesmerising to watch him play ,no other player like him

Alex wasn't exactly the greatest positional player but what he could do with the cue ball in terms screws, reverse check and stuns was an artistry to behold. He had shots only some players could dream of. He played with such control that the hardest shots only had one choice but to go in. What panache and style.

I like the way Steve Davis chalked his cue even after the match had finished. Pure habit, with a bit of anxiety thrown in.

The snooker behind the green was perfection.would any other snooker player have even seen that shot let alone execute it.only the great Alex saw shots like that RIP legend ☘️☘️☘️

If only Alex could have maintained that discipline, not only in snooker, but in his life, he may have still been with us today, most importantly, and also have won more titles, less importantly. Great performance here, beating Davis at his best, great great win

Davis won a lot more tournaments than Alex,although it was like watching a robot playing,no entertainment value.and no presence at the table.I would rather watch one game of Alex playing,than ten of Steve.It was Alex who brought the crowds back to watching snooker,not Steve,or anyone else.Your sadly missed RIP Alex ,

Alex was the greatest player ever but he didnt look after himself. If he did do you think he wouldnt have beaten davis all the time. He was 7-0 down then beat davis to win it. Alex is shown davis how to play the game here, this was an incredibale come back by alex against a robot. And hes was a master planner of the game. Alex did great shots that other players had never saw before and looked baffled, even davis looks baffled but he trys to hide it.

@@wotsthebloodypoint If by “mental health issues” you mean he was a rampant alcoholic, then yes; he had no other mental disorders. Numerous people tried to help him and he spurned them all. The fact is that he was an egotistical and unpleasant individual with no self-discipline and no respect for others. He threw it all away himself; no one else was to blame.

@jordanjordan9022
@jordanjordan9022 4 жыл бұрын
@@flaviusconstantius9702 Davis resented the adoration which Alex Higgins received from the crowd. Then, despite practicing daily for hours and hours, and playing an extremely boring, methodical style of snooker (a sport which grew immensely in popularity due to Alex's flamboyance, before beginning to fade again as someone as devoid of charisma as Davis became successful) he would lose out in the last frame, in finals like this one and the match against Dennis Taylor in 1985. The only thing in Davis's life was snooker, and when the pressure came on from more naturally talented players he could crack and crumble, as he also did against Stephen Hendry throughout the 1990s.

This was a blood,sweat and tears match,Alex bt Knowles,was 5 nil up,bt the Griff 9-4 and was playing awesome,no faults or gifts Snooker,yet David went 7 up in final? Looked over and would of been for any other player ever!!! Alex realised his break was letting Davis in,sorted it out and went up 14-12....Only the Hurricane would say never die,while the rest folded like a cheap suit!!!!
