One of the 30 titles won by Alex "Hurricane" Higgins was the Canadian Club Masters in 1976 against Ray Reardon - These are the final 10 minutes and include him in long hair, puffing his cigarette after he wins and kissing a girl - legend

An old fashioned snooker club type venue. More atmosphere than the venues of today with their bright lights. Ted Lowe's commentary fits the bill perfect.

@Webber147 To be honest you don't even deserve the vision ao watch or appreciate how amazing Higgins was. My dad used to to him to tournament in the 80's, Preston, Edinburgh and more, my older brother set the balls up for him in practice too. Higgins ability to pot any ball anywhere was out of this world, not only that what he could do with the cue ball was totally alien, his ability to instantly read a table in safety play was unseen. He was the greatest player ever to grace a table.

Also I get the impression that he must have been even more amazing to watch in real life rather than on TV. On TV, the table looks smaller than it really is and therefore the game looks easier. In real life you can see how huge the table is and how amazing some of those shots are.

Snooker on ITV in the late70s/early 80s until 1981 was regionally televised invite only tournaments for the top 8 players recorded over a weekend used as schedule fillers and shown a few weeks/months later as a 7 week series with 1 match per edition on late-nights or Sunday afternoons in the Summer in the Football off season

incredible footage. Alex dragged snooker from this environment into what it is today. Shout out to legend Reardon too. Also £1000 in 1976 is only £6500 today... how things change. If Alex could have conquered his demons he could have been the greatest instead of the best.

Higgins and Reardon were good in their era....but you have to say with this standard of snooker they would struggle to be even in the top 32 with the quality of players that are around now! Higgins was an enigma, he could mess up even the easiest of positional shots and then pull off an impossible one...very inconsistent player but fascinating to watch!

You’re forgetting that the tournament tables are of much better quality these days. Back in the old days, the balls were heavier and the cloths and cushions weren’t as good quality. The players had to hit the balls perfectly to get the desired position.

Don Reid, a professional photographer covered Higgins exhibition. The show was over, but Alex could not resit getting the last pound note from the crowd who idolised him. A small party stayed behind, they played a game called Blackpool. Alex won the game then he went on to argue the stakes were much higher than the players agreed to. These were way above average players who could pot some of the most faraway balls anywhere on Earth, and in any pocket of whom you can dream, but there's not enough found footage of the supreme skill of the legendary Willy Thorn, who would literally eat anyone else for breakfast in his prime, no matter how good they tried to be, especially in the morning sessions. Higgins is probably the most overrated player of all time. He could pot but his positional play was poor and those who call him the greatest ever are delusional. His first World title in 1972 was achieved from a field of 18 players only two of whom were world class, Spencer and Reardon. His only truly significant titles were the world championship in '82 and the UK in '83. That's it. He wouldn't break the top twenty if he was starting out again today.
