Teenoso vastly underrated as a derby winner. Was pulling double throughout that race. Won the King George the following year in a course record.

@@mrk24107 Not bad for a horse who was meant to be a soft ground horse, I think Piggott made all on Tenoso that day?

Was also proof of why a derby winner shouldn't be rushed off to stud . At the end of there 3 year old career..if he was retired at the end of it he'd have gone down as a poor derby winner . Instead of the brilliant one he became .

I loved listening to Peter o Sullivan on BBC and hearing Jimmy Lindley on the build up to the race. Even the jockeys piggott,rip wee Willie, swinburn, pat eddery, Cochrane and the likes. Just preferred watching it back then. Brough Scott only man hasn't changed in 40 years since teenoso win

The old man talked about Teenoso a lot over the years so he must have had a few quid on him, very easy Derby winner with the greatest jockey onboard.

Nice to see this extended footage. This was only the second Derby I watched live (the first was The Minstrel 1977) Amazing that a Derby favourite, with Lester on board was allowed to drift out to 6-1; one of only two runners with single figure prices. Six runners had three figures, one even had four ! Great to see Lester's attacking tactics after Tattenham Corner, showing the value of Teenoso's proven stamina in the Lingfield Trial as did Steve Cauthen on Slip Anchor two years later. I never ceases to amaze me why so many horses run in the Derby with no knowledge of their ability to stay the trip. Two questions though: Where were Caerleon & Shareef Dancer? Would either horse have beaten Teenoso like they did in Ireland ?
@steveo71655 жыл бұрын
The drifting price on Teenoso is because they were bookmakers trying to take money back then, as opposed to accountents trying keep it now!! And for Caerleon & Shareef Dancer, No (The Derby was run on heavy ground, the Irish derby on fast) so going and the track would have beaten them. However they were all good horses. 👍

@@steveo7165 Cheers for your reply sir, I ust to be a big racing fan in the late 60s n 70s and early 80s but sadly it as lost its way and identity especially N.H racing. Health and safety plus do gooders have ruined the sport .U only have to look at the grand national which is now a joke ' it will soon become a 4 mile flat race .No one can compare Red Rum s wins to Tiger Roll s because they r to different races ..I take it u were born in 1971 I was born in 1960 ..All the very best to you sir...Glynn

@@glynnevans1851 Correct 1971, so I only got to see the 70's racing and years previous on video tapes and the occasional remenise package on Ch4 racing (When the sport was shown for & treat with respect of it's lovers!) NOT as a banal Z'd list/fashion hodgepodge of a show now, with some racing tacked on, the mid 80's (82-86) were golden years for my formative years getting into racing. Lots of GREAT horses in both codes. I'm just thankful for the wonderful channels like this that have uploaded so many memorable races from their video collections for us all to enjoy. Best Wishes to you also Glynn
