I pulled a fast one on my local bookie right after he crossed the line. He was slow to change the Derby ante post prices on the board so I stuck a tenner on him at 16/1 to win the Derby. I was flat broke when Derby day came around and that £160 was a life saver.

@@gregl6527; I saw Steve Cauthen give a brief interview & he said that Slip Anchor was the best he sat on BUT someone popped on a comment saying Steve told him PERSONALLY that Affirmed was the best he sat on. Yeah Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 78 but he only had Alydar to beat in the 3 races & Slip Anchor won the Triple Crown too & he beat more than just one horse.

In my opinion the 70s and 80s were the two best decades in horse racing. The 85 LingField and Epsom Derby was the easiest of a winner you’ll ever see in a horse race. Just absolutely a monster performance. Cauthen was just magical. Came back and did the same thing two years later on Reference Point.
