I have a sweet spot in my heart for the ‘83 Yamaha YZ125’s, I had two of them that year: a yellow and black American market bike and a white/red Japanese market bike. We were living in Japan and I raced over there, on Yamaha that year. We came back to the states for the summer and my dad wanted me to do some racing in the US to see how we stacked up after having some moderate success in Japan. I broke my right tibia in the first corner of the first race. So that bike sat, Un-ridden, basically brand new until we returned to the US in the fall of 84. I raced it throughout 1984 in the southeast and seemed to win every time. Really good times and great memories👍

Greatest era in motocross. These Factory Bikes were 20 plus years ahead of their time. A stock KTM 125SX is the same door as these.

How good would these factory bikes suspension be compared to modern production stuff? Close, or way more primitive. * What is offered to the public nowadays is high quality, & only a fraction of racers use to its limits , & certainly world's apart from production suspension of the '80s

The Kid was his nickname. In a city called Balen in Belgium there where 2 campings called Keiheuvel (GT). I was every weekend on Keiheuvel (1) and saw him drive many many times. In this city (village) Balen they made a discotheek in my younger years (1980 - 1990). And they called it "The Kid" I think it was in honour of him. I spoke to him once or twice but saw him many more times motorcrossing :) A beast on the motor, but a nice man in real life. Sad to hear he is gone from us.

Nice choppy,lumpy, bumpy,sloppy track.their suspension was a lot less evolved back then.brakes too.

A current regular production YZ125 anyone can buy would have been considered a rare exotic factory race bike back then.
