An old timer told me a trick that sounds pretty crazy but it works 50% of the time. When I get a carb that I clean/rebuild like you did in this video and it still does not work right, I boil it in water...yes water! I know water and gas is bad but it really does seam to help loosen the lacquer deep in side. My process is, I fill my wife's favorite pasta pot(Not!) with water and drop in the carb cold. I bring it all up to a rolling boil and let it cook for 15 minutes. You will see all kinds of scum floating on the surface of the water. I throw the jets in the pot but try to remove all the rubber and plastic parts. 212 degrees will not melt plastic but it will swell rubber parts. I drain the water and burn my fingers getting it out of the pot. While it is still hot I spray the crap out of it with WD40. Helps get rid of any water and leaves a nice oily residue to help the slide and other moving parts. Just my process, Try it! what do you have to loose! Thanks for another great Video Harvey!

Hey Ed, This carb may need more love then the rebuild I gave it... It will start will a little hoot of starting fluid, but, it seems to run a little lean, when I get the gas tank hooked up, I'm going to give it the old sea foam treatment, if that doesn't work, I'll try your boil it technique, it may clean up some of the channels that may still be clogged... Thanks for the info and advice, I may just be using it.... Thanks also for all the support, watching, and commenting!!!!

that air line you talked about is the bowl vent to let air into the float bowl so it doesn't starve out for fuel. and a good idea for the idle jet is to screw it in until it's lightly seated and count the turns to get it back to its original setting. if you're not sure, 1 1/2 to 2 turns out from seated will get you in the ballpark.

Hey Dave, I did forget to mention a light seating of the mixture screw and counting where it belongs for the initial set up, typically, I just set them to 1.5 turns and that gets them running... About the hoses, I was trying to warn folks not to just disconnect and throw things away, that they may end up with a vacuum leak that is had to understand... I had that problem with a China clone carb, it had an opened vent that caused me a vacuum leak that took a little time to figure out.... Thanks for the good input, watching, and commenting!!!!

Just scored what I believe is a 70, but when I search the numbers, I get nothing. It came with an extra motor, and tranny, and got it for a steal. It runs, but needs rebuilt, cause it's an oldie, plus I wanna do a rebuild just so I know everything is tight. HELP!..lol. where can I get parts, and who/how do I search the numbers?

Hey Sid, There are round dogs in the one way clutch that the kick starter uses to engage and turn the engine over, they are probably worn.... I have a 1985 250ES with the same issue, it starts easy enough, so I'm just dealing with it.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

Hey Sid, I'm not sure if U need a kick starter shaft or the 1 way clutch, would not know until I opened it up and looked at it.... Maybe a broken spring, hard to know without looking at it.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

A friend just got a lil 70 ran on the test drive now it won’t run for shit. I’ve noticed in ur video and also on eBay that the carb has a shut off valve on it along with two fuel lines . His doesn’t have that I’m wondering if it’s not the right carb ??

Hi, Rebuilding most carbs require the same steps, the trick is how to demonstrate the techniques so that other folks can also do their own rebuilds..... Thanks for your thoughts, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!

I think it's not a bad idea to dump a whole can of the PB Blaster on every bike all over it & moving parts just to keep things loose. LOOK UP, I see the light lol. It's the air mixture jet lol. You said idle mixture jet but cool I know what you mean I'm just jerking your chain. One thing if you don't clean the drain screw on the bowl and it floods you can't drain the bowl to get all the gas out but OK I understand. You gonna have this sucker doing wheelies soon.

Hey Calvin, I hope to have the ATC70 out for a ride tomorrow, I'm just waiting for the red kote gas tank sealer to finish drying.... Sometimes I spray WD40 on the chain, sprockets, wheel bearings, steering components, etc... It seems to loosen things up and keeps them moving... The little ATC70 is actually looking pretty good, I think U will be impressed when it is done.... Thanks for the laugh, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!
