Bob Bourne at 34:56 is sheer poetry in motion. Also you could have shown in the third game of the Rangers' series how, with less than a minute left the Islanders actually had the tying goal disallowed under very questionable circumstances.

True, I tried to stick to just the goals in the compilation, but that was a pretty dramatic moment in that game.

I'd love to see it if you have the time. I don't remember when I got my first VCR but I know it was after the Isle's cup run. I'm glad that a few people saved their tapes from this period. Who could have known back then there would be such a thing as youtube?
@mikel70048 жыл бұрын
MSG cable here in New York replayed game 3 on a show called Rangers 101. But they cut it up and put graphics over it. I have a second generation of an original vhs recording which is used here. I've seen enough comments that I might post just the waved off goal separately. The ref did blow the whistle before the puck went in. he just blew it fast.

That was fantastic! Anything similar to this from any of the Cup years would be amazing, but if you never posted anything on YT again, you made me a happy guy

Cool. In the other years, there are a few games here and there that are not known to exist, eg in 1982 game 4 of the penguins series, game 5 of the Oilers series in 1981, and several games from 1980, But I am working on a few others. Glad you enjoyed. That was my favorite cup win in 83.
@jpwjr11998 жыл бұрын
I was 9 when the Islanders won their last Cup, so I really couldn't appreciate it, but could understand how fans who were older than I was would have enjoyed the first and fourth Cups, as they came after subpar regular seasons. As I understand it, the turning point in 83' came after a March meeting with the team put together by Al Arbour that served as a "bitchfest" (a lot of it aimed at Arbour, who had to take it, as he recognized a lot of what they were saying had truth in it) and it appeared that once the toxicity had been aired out, they started to play well again. The Bourne/Sutters' line that had been put together shortly before the Capitals series was just unconscious throughout the tournament, and Smitty obviously recovered from his play in the Washington series, as well as Game 3 at the Garden against the Rags to have a phenomenal final 2 rounds.

As a sports fan you can always hold championship teams close to your heart, but how many fans can look back at dynasties. Not only hall of fame players, but very good players as well. I did not even realize until today that Bourne was the leading point scorer on the Isles in the 83 playoffs. Thanks boys for some great memories and bragging rights that will last a lifetime.

The Islanders actually tied Game 3 of the Rangers series after being down 7-2. Bryan Trottier roofed a backhander with seconds left in the 3rd period, Denis Hood said it never went in. But it wasn't a goal, so it's not in this video.
@chrisuncleahmad6668 жыл бұрын
I believe it was Bossy, not Trottier, who had that goal waived off.
@jzimm10758 жыл бұрын
Could be. I do have that game recorded. I'll have to double check. Trottier was incensed. I can upload video later tonight. I know Isles lost, but I loved that game, especially knowing that they actually did tie it.

I went to Game 1 and Game 5 against the Rangers. In game 1 the Rangers (were ahead 1-0 at the time) had a 2-0 break and Smitty made the save. After that the Isles got 4 straight goals to win 4-1. I remember game 5 against the Rangers the Isles dominated the first period but the score was tied after 1 period. The Islanders then blew it open in the 2nd period. I remember the length of the ice Bourne goal. I was behind the Islander net and was yelling at him to just skate and he went the length of the ice. I think I went to game 4 against the Bruins also. My friend said the that the Bruins had to work to hard for the goals. They did not have as many goal scorers has the Islanders.

Those Bruins and Oilers teams were very very good- yet the Islanders outclassed them in spades. That's the mark of a great team- make a quality team look anything but.

This is awesome! Thanks so much! Any chance you could post entire games from this period, particularly 81-82 and 82-83 seasons or playoffs? The 1983 Bruins-Isles playoff series is hard to find and the games are always terrible quality. Also, no one ever airs Game 2 of the 1983 finals - a great game. Lastly, I have NEVER seen games 1 and 2 of the 1982 Wales Conference Finals, NYI-QUE on Long Island. Either way, I love what you do - it is much appreciated!

Pete petters won vezina this season . But if you look at his body language in this video he knows he is beat before isles especially bossy even shoot . He was not only an awful goalie but very weak minded.
@mikel70048 жыл бұрын
During the series, the Islander Announcer Jiggs McDonald made the the point he felt Peeters, who was terrific all year, might have been psyched out because he gave up the cup winning ot goal in 1980. It's strange how bad he was in the Coliseum games but great in games 2 and 5 in Boston. the islander announcing team usually wasn't that critical but they kept noting how badly Peeters set up for shots.
@dzanier8 жыл бұрын
Peeters was the goalie for the Caps when my Rangers upset them in the 86 quarterfinals, and I recall very vividly how badly he was set up for certain shots. The MSG Network announcers mentioned it as well as the ESPN announcers. As far as the goal Bossy scored on the slap shot in Game 6, Mike scored so many goals like that in his career against goalies good and bad that I tend to give Peeters the benefit of the doubt on that one. Bossy was the most lethal sniper I've ever seen.
