1983 Kawasaki GPZ1100 Quick Clutch Fix

When i bought my 84 Gpz 1100 it had been sitting in a garage for 27 years. The fuel injectors and fuel pump were toast and parts not available .. Installed a set of mikuni 34 carbs to get the bike running while trying to source parts for the fuel injection system. That took about 2 years. Bike was worth it with only 2300 miles on odo. Fuel tank was rusted, brake master cyl were shot.Bike now runs like a new machine. I am 71 years old so i don;t have a need to go fast anymore, old bones take to long to heal. I have a nice collection of bikes including 2 Honda Cb350f models. The one Honda i found in a trash pile had not been run since 1978 motor was seized tighter than a ticks ass. With a little marvel oil and acetone and heating the cyl barrel with MAP gas was able to free up engine. She doesn't burn a drop of oil. those old Honda engines are amazing.

Wow 1983, I was 20 years old and just married, The GPZ1100 was one of the superbikes of my dreams, at the time I had a Suzuki GS550E which was the closest thing I could afford, great post man

I've had good results with a Motion Pro cable lube tool, it allows you to force lubricant through the entire length of the cable.

Yes, that tool is the way to go, a couple shots of WD40 followed by some aerosol cable lube and you're done.

I have the same bike .My advice would be to back off adjustment at handlebar ,turn adjustment barrel in all the way., then do your adjustment at engine case do fine adjustment at clutch lever.

Just spotted that the clutch lever seems to be bend inwards and limiting „full pull“. It may be worth a check… Keep up the great work. Love the content you are making 👍🏼 Best regards from Germany!

I would look to searching a replacement clutch lever as the one fitted is slightly bent, and its not giving you the full amount of pull towards the bars. Also check to see if the steel ball is still in place between the clutch push rod and the clutch push rod pin. If it were me I would also remove the sprocket cover and check over the clutch release mechanism, they have a tendency to get full of gunk and stiffen up everything associated with it, 👍😎. Always have liked those bikes. The progenitors of the ninjas. Shop manual, very cool. Maybe one day you can find the other half in paper form. If you ever get bored, look at the Clymer manuals. How much would it take to make the parts bike a whole bike?

The parts bike is complete just has low compression. Long term plan is to pull the engine and rebuild it. Thanks for watching.

While you're in the area of the clutch lever, don't forget to spritz the lever's hinge pin. It's an easily-forgotten bit of maintenance, and can make quite a difference to how the lever feels when you put pressure on it.

I have found any wear in lever pivot greatly reduces amount of lift I have removed my clutch levers and bushed the pivot hole plenty of grease and good lift at clutch.

I like to grease up the clutch cable inner sheath if at all possible, or ad a dab at both ends, and let it work in
