Stunning! Hopefully one day you'll find a blue or silver one with palomino interior!
@woodsandbarclay4 ай бұрын
As far as I know silver's did not come with palomino interior unless it was special ordered. The midnight blue cars did, but the middle blue cars came with blue interiors.
@DCGuy19974 ай бұрын
@@woodsandbarclay I've only seen a few in my lifetime w/out blue and assumed they were special order. And as best i can recall the buyer had ordered the cream interior. So I've never seen a blue or silver with palomino.

I'm of two minds on rebuilding the suspension on a car like this. On one hand, it's nice having fresh suspension with zero miles. On the other hand, it's difficult to believe that any parts available now would be as high quality as the originals, and may not have the same longevity. Hopefully I'm wrong and the current replacements are better quality than I think.
@woodsandbarclay4 ай бұрын
The current replacements are absolutely fine. Nothing to worry about there. Always rebuild 40-year-old suspension.

seems like you came back from Europe without that 190D hehe. I see comments here from a month back, yet I just got notified it is a new post.

The video has been unpublished on KZbin but still listed there and only available on my website. I'm just publishing it live on KZbin now because I'm finished with the previous car I was working on. If you always want to see the latest videos you must go to the website because sometimes I have KZbin videos there that are not yet public on the KZbin platform. The 190D in Europe was actually owned by my buddy and he stores it in London.

A Mercedes W123 is my favorite car in the world. I am, however, confused about the diesel vs. petrol models. From what I've read, the diesel engines are more reliable but I'm concerned about the noise inside the cabin. I love to listen to classical music when driving and classical music has a lot of soft, almost inaudible passages. A quiet cabin is paramount so I think that a petrol W123 would be the better option for me. I've never driven either model though. What's your thoughts? Is the diesel model noisier than the petrol model? Also, would it ruin this stunning original car to add more sound deadening material between the engine bay and the cabin? It's impossible for me tell whether the diesel of petrol engine is quieter to drive. This car is brilliant !!! A masterpiece.
@Johnathan_Waters4 ай бұрын
This is definitely true... the diesel engines are really noisy while at speed on the highway! The 240 is louder than a late 300, but still louder than a gas powered car.
@davidhunternyc14 ай бұрын
@@Johnathan_Waters Thank you for your thoughts. Very helpful. But is the petrol engine W123 also noisy at highway speeds?
@Johnathan_Waters4 ай бұрын
@@davidhunternyc1 Compared to a modern car? Yes it is, especially the M110 (280) engine with its almost always noisy valve tappets.
@woodsandbarclay4 ай бұрын
I just want to chime in and say the noise that a diesel om617 engine makes is part of the charm of owning one of the cars. It's one of the best sounds in the world. You can easily listen to classical music on the highway you just have to turn it up a little more. The cars are not overly loud. But that diesel clatter when you crank them up in the morning is just an awesome experience and it never gets old.
@Johnathan_Waters4 ай бұрын
@@woodsandbarclay Of course this is correct, i am mostly referring to the noise when at speed on the highway. I owned a 1977 240D, and at 80mph, you almost couldn't talk over the roar of the engine. Not a quite car by any means!
@wernerdanler27424 ай бұрын
That thing sounds like it needs the valves set, and the injection pump needs adjusting. It does look good.
@woodsandbarclay4 ай бұрын
All old diesel Mercedes need a good valve adjustment. The injection pump definitely does not need adjusting.

Yeah it's in amazing condition but don't let that fool you these cars are 40 years old they all need a ton of work. I simply try to buy cars with outstanding paint and outstanding interiors. All the mechanical stuff has to be gone through. All of these cars need thousands and thousands of dollars worth of work in order to get them back to my standards. Sure you can hop in and drive the car as is but the whole point of having a classic car is having a really nice classic car. And that's what I do to them. I buy nice ones and then I make them really really nice.
