The Final 8 game at the Carrier Dome between the Heels and the Dominique Wilkins-less Dawgs. I do not own or profit from this video.

I remember this game vividly. Carolina looked asleep and it was frustrating - they'd looked funky against Ohio State in the Round of 16. I always thought losing that ACC semifinal game against State just lingered. But in response to a comment below, 1984 was, agreed, the most painful. When they were undefeated in February, after they'd annihilated UVa in Charlottesville, Bill Millsaps of the Richmond Times-Dispatch wrote something like, 'That 1968 UCLA team was always #1 in my book. Mark this UNC team as #1A.' Then the Kenny injury, and it all sort of seemed to fracture. Pound for pound, I thought better than 1982. And then it simply did not happen.

From 1983 to 2019, UNC are 3-3 winning the NCAA tournament in the Year of the Rooster and 1-34 in all other Chinese years.

IMHO, the 1983 NCAA Tournament was the best ever. And the Regional Finals were all great. KENTUCKY-LOUISVILLE, HOUSTON-VILLANOVA, NC STATE-VIRGINIA, and this classic. Couldn’t believe that UGA won this game the year after Dominique, but the Dunkin Dawgs were up to the task. Unfortunately, UGA came out flat in the Final Four against the Wolfpack. With guys like Terry Fair and Vern Fleming, and Gerald Crosby, what a fun team to watch!

I'm a UK fan and that OT loss to Louisville was tough, but you're right, great tournament.
@90srule963 жыл бұрын
JD71andOnly one of the best games I’ve ever seen. That was the first time they played each other in a long time. UK got revenge the next year, but lost to Georgetown when nobody on the Wildcats could hit the broadside of a barn. Really wanted your Wildcats in that game..😕
@jdthebooster3 жыл бұрын
@@90srule96 Yeah, Master tied it at the buzzer but they got blowout by the Cards in OT. And yes, that Georgetown game was ridiculous with how cold they went after halftime.

JD71andOnly After Jim Master hit that shot, I thought UK had it. You probably don’t like the Ville if you’re a UK fan, but those Denny Crum early 80s teams were fun to watch.

If Dominique would have stayed for this season, this would have been Georgia's revenge game from the seasn before. A totally different outcome. Still not bad for a team that wasn't known for basketball until Nique arrived, to make it as far as they did, to be eliminated by an easily top 5 basketball program in the NCAA.

mr.c.p. brown You know that Georgia won this game, right? This is the year they lost to NC State in the Final Four.

Before this game Sports Illustrated quoted Sam Perkins as saying, "[he] 'didn't know what conference Georgia played in.' Score one for dumb." At about 22:30, the announcers say, "Sam Perkins will go to sleep on you, but then, bang [he'll explode]." I don't think he woke up until this game was over. Sam, it's called the Southeastern Conference. They're better known for football, although Florida won back-to-back basketball championships about ten years ago, and I think Kentucky has occasionally done OK in basketball. Thanks for the upload.

No SEC teams in this years Final Four . Just 2 from the ACC . Carolina and Duke . Stick with Alabama and Georgia football . Kentucky ain't winning a Title in basketball unless it's a conference title.

First in a LONG string of disappointing NCAA endings for UNC. From 83-90, UNC kept letting down fans with earlier-than-expected exits. 83 was notable. But 84 and 87 REALLY hurt. To Dean Smith's credit, not once between 83-90 did the Tar Heels miss the NCAA Tourney and not once did the Tar Heels not push at least to the Sweet 16. Most of the time, they were in the Elite 8 knocking on the Final 4 door!
@MichaelSmith-or8kt3 жыл бұрын
Yes! '85 and '86 they were eliminated by the eventual National Champion each time. And the NBA talent that eliminated them '87, '88, '89 is really impressive: Douglas/Coleman/Seikaly of Syracuse, Elliott/Tolbert/Cook/Kerr/Buechler/Rooks of Arizona, and Rice/Robinson/Vaught/Higgins/Mills of Michigan. It was disappointing as a UNC fan, but, looking back, understandable.

It’s been said that Dean Smith was the only person who could hold Jordan under 20 points. Jordan wasn’t great this game, but old time Tarheel fans remember well in 1984 when Jordan only had 13 against Indiana in that Sweet 16 loss. Ouch.

Yeah then he kicked the NBA AllStar teams getting ready for a Gold Medal . Then he kicked complete ass in the NBA for all those glorious years with 6 Titles . The greatest basketball player of all time scores 13 in a game and gets criticizes . Nice argument ! Basketball has never been as good as was in the 80s and 90s!!!

How was this the worst year of college basketball ever? This was the same season NC State upset Houston in the championship. Not to mention the exciting above the rim dunkfest between Houston and Louisville in the semifinals.
@damienkirksey70264 жыл бұрын
If Michael Jordan would have never foul out in the Acc Tournament against NC state in 1983,Nc state would have not been in the NCAA tournament and plus the way they handled the three point line and shot clock show you how behind the NCAA were during this time even though Bobby Knight didn't like the three point line...Houston vs Louisville should have been the final game of the season, the NCAA committee got the brackets wrong that year.. Nc State was lucky that year to win the national championship and the same with Villanova in 1985
