Published in E&MM magazine in 1983, Kenneth McAlpine created the Synbal and Syntom Percussion Synthesizers.
I've re-made both modules, trying to keep the design as authentic to the original, albeit with surface mount components and a couple of Chip substitutions where the original spec chip is either hard to find or very expensive now. I've added a manual trigger and the modules can either work stand alone, or be plugged together.
In the clip there are 2 Synbal modules configured as a Hi-Hat and some weird gong type sound, and 2 Syntom modules configured as a Snare and Bass Drum. I play with them for a little while, and then start messing with the controls so you can hear some of the sounds they are capable of producing.
There is a 3rd module in the series called the 'SynClap' this is the next one that I'll make :)
