I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6L that had 40,000 miles. I too had trouble pumping gas into the car. I discovered the charcoal pebbles in the canister hose thanks to Gettin' Junk Done KZbin channel. I just took one end of the hose that had the charcoal pebbles in it loose. I vacuumed out the hose, put a screw driver into the hose that goes to the charcoal canister and stirred up more charcoal pebbles and vacuumed those out as well. I put some silicone grease on the fitting so that the hose would come off easier in the future. I had to vacuum out the charcoal pebbles several times, but I no longer have to do so. I have no problems with charcoal pebbles and have had no check engine lights. I do not detect any fuel smell because of the missing charcoal pebbles. If you want to replace the charcoal canister, you are looking at spending about $200+ for the canister.

Thank you very much for the video. I worked on my wife's Santa Fe today that had the same issue. There were a lot of charcoal pebbles felt out. I used a vacuum in order to suck out more pebbles from the canister. If you work on this, wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from dust. Before the fix, we got gas at Costco yesterday and the pump kept shutting off, it was pretty annoying especially since there were many people waiting behind us.

Good video! I think I need a new evaporator canister vent valve and I didn't know it was inside that case. I will also now check that hose for loose charcoal. I had already replaced the purge valve in the engine compartment because the Santa Fe would not start after a fill up. That did the trick and fixed that problem but now a month or two later I get a code 455 gross leak / no flow. That is a tough fit under the Santa Fe without it being raised. I did the same thing today just looking around under there. You did it!

It should be close to or on the exhaust manifold off the back of the block of the engine. Bank two should be after the catalytic converter.

Excellent video! Two questions: 1) could this cause a check engine light, or would that be the result of another issue? I coded P0171 & 0174, had the MAF replaced, & then the check engine light came on immediately after while refueling. So I don’t yet know if the codes are the same, or if this charcoal canister & subsequent lines are the issues. 2) I plan on doing this. Could you give me a list of all the tools you used? Thanks in advance & again, excellent video!
@StansAuto832 жыл бұрын
I can’t honestly remember what tools are used since I did this video a long while ago I did use a screen from old window as a temporary fix. The screen was used to keep the charcoal from coming out and clogging up the Vape line that runs to the tank, but I also had to in a sense, move the line around to get the charcoal to come out of it since it was backing up towards the tank. You can get a evap code, and the Yvette code can throw other codes because the innocence gas fumes that are coming from the tank are not making it to the engine to be burned off and the vehicle will notice like an event leak.

If you ever have trouble with the gas pump clicking off while filling up your gas tank, get under your santafe and disconnect that hose to let out the charcole pebbles as many as you can and you'll be good for another 7 or 8 months.

I just came across a KZbin channel where a Hyundai charcoal canister was cut open to expose the interior. He dumped all of the charcoal pellets out of the canister to expose the other end of the canister where the hose openings are. There was some foam to keep the charcoal pellets in the canister in front of the openings that had decayed allowing the charcoal pellets to enter the hose. I have to wonder why Hyundai used foam instead of was mesh screen that would not decay ? This should be a recall item IMO..... link = kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqOxpZ16lpKsjLssi=ZjiSS-CEFXpLA-bB
