Wow what a start. Marino would destroy the league today.

This game should have been 42-17 Miami. Washington secondary was always the pits. Even in 82-83. If Shula had put in Don Strock in Superbowl XVII the way he did in 1981 divisional against San Diego, he would have won it. David Woodley 4 completions. Oh my God!

Wash - 52 rushes - 276 yards, What did you say about Strock , Woodley threw a 76 yard TD to cefalo , Fouts shredded Dolphin Defense 433 yards and rushed for 149 , Grow up son .

Don Shula was a man of principles. Can't blame him for being loyal to his young QB. David Woodley got em there. Woodley had great talent, and he was thought to be the future. If Shula benched him in the SB for having a poor half of football, it would've wrecked his confdence going forward. Woodley still beat out Marino in training camp in 1983.

@@mr.majestic3851 You're thinking of the '81 season when Fouts & Strock had that Epic in Miami. In this SB year '82, Miami's defense CRUSHED Fouts & the Chargers in the playoffs. Albeit Winslow was reinjured in that game.

A huge statement from Miami to go to Washington on opening day and win so convincingly.

As a Dolphins fan, I miss the "Redskins" team. And that was my dad's favorite team, rest his soul. It just isn't the same, and will never be, as "Commanders" :(

great highlights, Marino at the peak of his powers and those early 80's Redskins with Gibbs coaching, Riggins and the Hogs were always tough. One thing though Mark Mosely who won the mvp in 82, always seem to miss alot of kicks.,; in today's leauge he wouldn't have a job. Great job for this upload. purest passing quaterback in the NFL up until his retirement. #13 Marino.

Straight away kickers were always less accurate and usually had less distance than soccer style kickers. But at times Moseley was an exception in accuracy until he had to kick from distance. He was pretty bad from 40+ all through his career outside of 82.

Because of the solid defense and the Hogs and that running game, people forget how hard it was to cover Art Monk. Guy could get separation with good routes, had speed, and could break tackles.

Riggins was a beast even at this late stage of his career. Washington was actually playing good in this game but the explosiveness of the dolphins offense cause Washington start to gamble more to keep up.

This game put the league on notice in regards to Miami considering Skins were two time defending NFC champions. Everyone was stunned by the scoring. This game really made me pay attention to Miami especially Marino. He was lightening quick with the release

Those were the days mt friend. Football seemed to be at a much higher standard and the quality of officiating was higher too. Sad to see the game not what it once was.

I went to the last Miami Preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the week before this game. Dan hadn't played in the preseason due to an injured throwing hand thumb but was good enough to throw against the bucs so even though it was the last preseason game Marino started. He looked pretty good to me but the Bucs were blitzing him like it was the SB and Hugh Green got two big hits on Danny and Shula pulled him, so Danny didn't get much work but I watched him closely in pregame warm ups and I thought he looked damn sharp. But getting beat up a little by the TB defense had me wondering. As this tape shows, he lit the Redskins up...after the game Joe Gibbs said "we had a plan and we thought we had pretty good DB's but I guess we just hadn't seen anything like Dan Marino before"

Darrell Green was still getting used to his position. In time, he would be shutting down receivers and changing games with his skillset. Think the 1986 Divisional Rd versus Chicago and the 1987 Divisional Rd versus Chicago.

Darrell Green got burned at least 4 times that I saw by the Marx bros. Those two were awesome! I love Green too, but this wasn't a good game for him.

Shame Marino was not about in the last couple of decades, he would have all the passing records, no one even close in todays over rated talent.
