Wow! Oklahoma clearly won that game! That was a fumble that OU recovered deep in Texas territory!! And clearly an interception on the deflection in the end zone!! Unbelievable!!

I was never so pissed off in my life over any game in any sport as I was after this one. To have the game won twice on the final drive, a clear fumble recovered by OU and then the interception in the end zone, and be completely missed by that incompetent officiating crew! I was 17 at the time and I remember it very well. Thank God for instant replay!

@andyjones75143 жыл бұрын
Lifetime longhorn here. Been watching every TX/OK game since 1966. That was the most controversial play in rivalry history. I gotta admit I thought it was an interception but the zebras said no. But l told my dad it was a bad call we got lucky. That game was played in a downpour. But what people don't remember is that the stadium clock stopped working and Fred Akers didn't know how much time was left. Looking back it was the right call we were fortunate to end up in a tie. The most bitter games in rivalry history ended up in a tie the other being 1976. But it's been 37 years and I laugh that sooner fans STILL haven't gotten over it 😂

OU got screwed twice in the last drive, once on the fumble and once on the interception. however personally I wouldn't have gave Texas a safety.
@dentonyoung43143 жыл бұрын
Wow. I'd forgotten about the two... um... shall we say, "questionable" calls on Texas's final drive. Love the old-fashioned football. Power running attacks, three backs in the backfield, stout defenses. Every inch was given grudgingly.

Sad story on the 2 OU DBs involved in that should-have-been interception. Andre Johnson & Keith Stanberry were involved in a car wreck a couple of weeks after this game that ended both their careers. Johnson, also made the save on the long run by Orr before the goal line stand.

For those talking about the OU punters knee touching the ground. There was no legal procedure called on the play that kills the play so the play is dead and the penalty is assessed

19:34, Oklahoma punter clearly fields the ball on a knee at his own 37. Completely ignored by the head referee, punt goes through for a touchback and denies Texas 43 yards worth of field position. Nobody talks about this play, yet it happened before the other plays in question.That's...handy.
