This brings back some great memories. Used to watch the Rallysprint on the BBC every year but in 1984 my brother and I were at Donnington to watch. Got there too late to see the rally stage but i was in the crowd standing in the pit lane for the autotest and watched the race from Redgate. My outstanding memory, as a seventeen year old lad at the time, was seeing Michelle Mouton for the first time and realising just how beautiful she was. I seem to remember she was having trouble selecting gears in the Metro, which must have been a strange car for here after driving the Quattro. I also remember that we drove out at the end of the day and John Watson was sitting alongside us in the que in a brand new Rover 213. Loads of fun, thanks for posting tjhe video.

Christ but Michelle got some amount of stick. An absolutely amazing driver, almost world champ, and all she gets is slagged. Glad times have changed since the 80s in that regard! Very enjoyable episode, I loved these types of programmes and still do.

Michelle Moutron was (and is) more than an equal to many of her male colleagues. She blazed a trail when women in rallying was unfashionable (to say the least), yet when attitudes have changes do we see her like now?.....not at all. Where are the top women drivers in rallying today?
@somebodyelseuk2 жыл бұрын
@@Revup1 Michelle was an exception. There have always been women in motorsport - Barbara Cartland was kicking arses back in the 1930s. They don't get anywhere, because ultimately they haven't been quick enough. If they'd had the 'women only' championships back then, Michelle would have had more titles than Loeb, Ogier, Schumacher and Hamilton combined. There haven't been any women drivers with half the talent MM had, since. A lot of the male drivers that have been competing at the top level since, don't have half her talent.

Nothing surprisenly on this video...... Marc Deuz was always a good rallydriver see his winning of the 1986 Hunsruck rally before Mouton (Peugeot 205 T16 Germany) and Eklund on his MG 6R4. Watch on the KZbin video of this rally and also the 1986 24 Hours rally of Ypres and you will seen his wonderfull rally skills. Maybe a lot of you don't know but Deuz did a lot of circuit races too for the Belgian Belga Team. He was a race and rallydriver the only bad thing for him was that he came from...... a small country called BELGIUM...... if he had the Britisch nationality he would have more chance to be a pilot in an manufatures team and participated in WRC rallies. He had the talent to be a wrc topdriver but came from a small country. Marc Deuz is also a well educated person he speaks easy English, Dutch, French and Germain language. He is a really gentleman, very social person has no huge alter ego...... In fact he's very easy to talk with and is know for his good feeling for humor, jokes and playing charachter. But he's always been a proffesional minded pilote and very populair personalty in Belgium. We love him very much and respect him a lot for his spectulair driving and being a very fast pilot.

Those who owned an SD1 Vitesse or Vanden Plas from the factory were lucky. Those who raced them were very lucky, but not as lucky those who had a Scalextric. The Rover was a kind of macho Q-car pin-up. As tinny as Metros could be sometimes, their kart-like tiny wheels and low gravity centre made them ideal for autotesting like nothing else. All '80s MGs were pretty nifty in a suburban kind of way. This video is fantastic.
Michelle Mouton, beautiful and what a Rally Driver, an amazing woman.

If anyone says Mouton was a bit rubbish in this, I'm going to tell the computer. Michelle was being a good sport in the bad old days of women having to suffer going along with all the oppression of men sometimes having a bit of a giggle with them, which is so cringeworthy and thankfully fully banned now. She was more than a match for everyone, and if only women were allowed out on Thirsdays in the 1980s, most women would surely have done everything I can ever think of and more, plus there would be no wars with more women around. Apart from the pain of how awful this was to witness, this was smashing, even though, on the whole, I wish it had never happened because it's like watching cave men relative to this age of full equestrianism.
