I got to ride one in 84. It was a ride day at our local Harley dealer back then. Less vibe in the bars then my 83 FXWG. I kept my FXWG and still ride it today!

I wasn’t aware they made any shovel FXR in 84, 82 & 83 are all I’ve ever seen or heard of. I have an 82. I thought all 84 rubber mount were evo. Some 4 speed frames still had shovels and even rumors of some 85 shovel 4 speeds. Of course your VIN will verify if the numbers match. If so, rare bird.

I have an 83 FXR SuperGlide 5 speed in my garage right now (oct. 2020) It belongs to my barber it has been sitting for about five years. It has a ton of little stuff wrong with it mostly rotten rubber hoses. This bike is very factory except for the S&S Super E. I pressure washed it so I can see what is what. It was running when he brought it to me but I wish he hadn't started it before I got it.

Hi I have an 89 FXR sitting in my garage. I bought it for my husband a couple years ago, but he never tookk the time to fix it up. I recently got my motorcycle licence and I'd love to finally restore this bike so it can be ridden like it deserves. I need to change the forward controls to mids and lower the bars. I'm 5'2 and the previous owner was 6'5. I'm sure there's a lot of other restoration or repairs it will need. Any help or advise you can give me would be very appriciated!

Dam, I have a 94 FXR. I think i'm gonna get it towed to the shop. I don't want to mess it up. It's been sitting for a year and when i tried starting it a nasty oil spill happened.

Change the oil.. that's common when they sit

Yes and if overly concerned a squirt of lube down the cylinders

Ive got an 1980 chain drive 4 speed fxr same colour tho

You have an FXE, FXB or other FX. FXR are all 5speed, rubber mount. They didn’t start until 82, they were called the super glide 2 Or FXRS for super glide. There was also the FXRS-SP and -LR for sport and low rider.
