Bird won titles in 1981, '83, and '86 when they had Bill Walton coming off the bench. Good vid bro.

Did the playoffs start the next year? For example “83-84 nba year”
@aramhamparian9641Ай бұрын
@@dtaenodinero I don't understand your question. The NBA always had playoffs, even back n the 1950's.

I personally have always felt that what made Bird all that he was, came from his experience playing with guys that worked at a hotel in Frenchlick. They would play during breaks and after work and Bird would play with them. The group was almost entirely made up of black guys and I believe was bbecame a huge undiscussed part of his game as he developed. Larry was already a farm kid, so work ethic,drive, and passion to be the best through hard work and determination already existed. This isn't about black or white, it is about a completely different way to play the same game and that gave Bird an advanced degree in basketball knowledge and opened his eyes to the entire court and a toughness that can't be found in organized ball. His passing skills and court vision in my opinion had it's start in those pick up games. I grew up on a farm in a small town and was pretty good ball player. My game became three times as good in my twenties, thirties and forties playing pick up games with guys that played a street game versus a court game. If your skill set doesn't increase in that environment, you obviously won't play much. I also think it's why he hated the name, the great white hope , and why he squashed it quickly. Plus, his trash talk didn't come from playing organized ball. Nor did his never back down on rhe court attitude. I have enveloped myself in as many different cultures as possible in my life, because it truly expands who we can become.

It was Magics team, they called him Showtime.
@trhansen3244Ай бұрын
By this time, I would agree. It was still Kareem's team til about 1982 or so. In fact, Norm Nixon often played the PG instead of Magic. When he was traded and they drafted Byron Scott that's when Magic became the FT PG.

Kareem was traded to the Lakers in 75, but was drafted by the Bucks in 69. Magic was drafted in 79. He had ten years in the league when Magic was drafted.

That’s why I thought it was Kareem team

The Boston Garden didn't even have Air Conditioning at all. The Lakers brought in some portable A/C's for their locker room....but they couldn't be run due to blowing the fuse. Pat Riley still says to this day that Red Aurbach caused it to blow on purpose.

Pat Riley is hilarious and at least the Lakers tried

Grew up just north of Boston and was in my mid-twenties at this time. The old Garden had its own home court advantages. I enjoy your show. Good luck and keep moving forward.

I've always thought Bird was the best most versatile player to ever play the game. What he could do injured, with no shots or pain killers most couldn't do healthy. Nobody has ever come close to changing my mind. The closer it got to game day the excitement wasn't containable. From what I understand it was always hot in The Garden. I graduated in 83 and we only had one school in town with air conditioning. It just wasn't a big deal.
@dtaenodineroАй бұрын
I couldn’t imagine not having any air conditioning… I see why our elders are mentally and physically stronger then the new generations 💙 salute to all of yall ❤️
