This is a highlight video of the 1984 NLCS Game 4 game highlights. I do not own these clips

So cool that Show, Hawkins, Dravecky, Lefferts and Goose all pitched in our greatest win ever. Never really thought about that until re-watching this.

Dick Williams yanked Show pretty quick. It probably saved the game for SD.

The 1984 SD Padres. They were a fun team to watch.

I remember sitting in the left field plaza level just on the fair side of the foul pole when the Padres came to bat in the sixth. Me and a few others stood up and started clapping and yelling for the Padres to get something going against Sutcliffe. In a few minutes everyone was standing as the Padres scratched out two runs to get back in the game. After the seventh inning stretch nobody sat down until the inning was over and the Padres had taken the lead. Great memories.

Great childhood memories.

The thing I remember was after Tony Gwynn scored on Steve Garvey's single, Padres' announcer Dave Campbell said, "Oh, the Padres have taken Sutcliffe apart!!"

From a Cubs fan standpoint, this game was sickening. The only game worst in my time as a Cubs fan was the 2003 Game 6 loss to the Marlins. Those two games made me believe in curses. But '16 healed all wounds.

There was talk before the series about the Cubs installing lights obviously it didn't happen. If the lights were installed the first two games would have been in San Diego the last three would have been at Wrigley Field. You can see that one of the biggest differences in the game was how much longer starter stayed in even if they were struggling case in point the Red Baron. I understand that he was 16 and 1 had a great season coming over from Cleveland. That being said the pressure on him to come through must have been insane. Still Jim Fry should have put Trout in a little bit earlier

We had season tickets for the Padres in '80-'87. Just beyond first base, about four rows back. I have a 1984 CUBS World Series t-shirt. Of course the Padres came through and kept Chicago out of the series. Great times.

Drysdale's call when the Padres went up 5-3 was a classic.

wow how similar this game was to the Dodgers getting knocked out, up 3-0 padres make a run and get score to 5-3 and goose closing it out, with the padres 2022 rally goose.

Sutcliffe even went down to one knee and tied his shoes multiple times trying to get Frye to pull him but no such luck by the time he was pulled it was too late.

How in the world do they let Rick Sutcliffe sit out there to get destroyed?
@frankk.77612 жыл бұрын
Yep. You could tell that he had nothing left after that 2 run 6 inning. They should of put in Steve trout in the 7th.

Nobody was more old school than Dick Williams but he managed the modern way in this game and it won the pennant for the Padres. Cycle guys in and out once it’s proven your starter doesn’t have anything and keep the score close.

Looking back on this game and the bottom of the 7th inning, one has to wonder if Cubs manager Jim Frey had ever heard of a "bullpen"?
