I have been converting old family VHS to digital and I came across this video. It is the 1984 Olympic Torch passing through Southern California. I believe this was shot near Ontario California in 1984.
And yes, that is a baby me in the baby carrier on my mom's back.

We know that this footage is unique as it dates back to the 1984 Summer Olympics, but what you uploaded is not an accurate representation of what a VHS tape actually looked like when played back on a videocassette recorder and output to a cathode-ray tube. First, this footage is in the incorrect aspect ratio. This upload is in 16:9 when all NTSC-format VHS tapes were 4:3. Second, this footage is at half the intended temporal resolution. The utility frequency used by power stations in North America has been 60hz, so television systems in North America have always been at that exact frequency, thus resulting in a temporal resolution of 60 images per second (often a shorthand for (60/1.001)). This KZbin upload is at 30 images per second, which is not the correct temporal resolution of NTSC video. NTSC video is technically 30 images per second, but for most of its time, it was 60 interlaced fields per second. Interlaced fields contain half of the visible lines in the frame, and those alternating fields are intended to be displayed as separate images at different intervals. Interlaced video was a compromise as they needed a high-enough resolution for a clear image and a high-enough frame rate to reduce perceptible flicker while they need to conserve bandwidth. Cathode-ray tubes display interlaced video directly as those tubes use a raster scan to display the images. Overall, the visuals appear washed out, and the color depth is not accurate. You need to give us a superior-quality transfer of that VHS video. You need a higher-quality video capture device so that the color depth and overall visuals accurately represent how it would be displayed on a cathode-ray tube. For the temporal resolution however, you will need to use the correct deinterlacing algorithm so that you preserve the intended field rate of (60/1.001) for every second.
