Been there done that. I've been working on Fords for 30 years. The b cam is not a good cam for people that drive their cars in the street. In my experience in racing and street driving Ecam with 1.7 rockers is perfect. Doesn't change your vacuum. Doesn't screw up your air mass flow and you can use easily with any carbureted or mass air motor.

The b cam is definitely choppier cuz it has a bigger duration. That means that that will work from 3500 RPMs up. For the street. That is no good. You'll be eating a lot of expensive fuel. You want the ecam that gives you performance right from the bottom $1,500 to $6,500 much torquier bottom end. Not bad on fuel depending on your foot And still will give you a light lobe. Plus bonus you can add 1.7 rockers that will increase your lift to almost 5:30 lift compared to its factory 498 lift now you're talking And you can still use factory heads and springs without worrying about valve float

E303 or f303 I believe but you’ll need a roller motor. I think 85 and new 5.0 or any of the HO versions.

@@wpboss9805 im sure you found the answer to this already but you can realistically just get valve springs and call it a day. If you have 2.73 gears its gonna drive like crap till you get rid of those as well.

This description makes it sound like it is a step up from the E303. But Ford thinks of this cam as less than the E303. So which is it?

You are using generalities here and I don't think that's applicable in this case. Ford doesn't think 'less of this cam', its also not as easy as saying one is a "step up" or better, etc because it all boils down to what you want for your setup as the different cams will apply to different owners. The b cam is going to perform better in the upper rpm range compared to the e cam which will offer a broader power band ( as I describe around the 1:00 mark ). Now even though the b cam offers more duration, its still technically smaller based on lift compared to that e cam. So saying one is better than or less than, in this case really isn't fair to either cam. -Justin

If you add 1.7 roller rockers to the B-cam , it is definitely better than the E-cam. I.E. a little more duration and about the same lift. A solid little cam, even after 25 years.Just my opinion of course. A stock bottom end with some GT-40's or P's and a little gear, all the basic bolt on goodies, exhaust, etc. It's a nice little street contender!!!

Trust me, go with the ecam 1.7 rockers. You will have almost a 5:30 lift compared to 498. Won't have to change your valve springs or do any other modifications and you will have good acceleration from $1,500 to $6,500 RPMs perfect for the street. Stop and go and even the strip if you like. I use this Cam in my mustang years ago into 12 seconds quarter mile with no problems consistently

@@PistolPete1251 cheapest method is probably nitrous or a turbo. 350-400hp to the wheels is difficult to achieve cheaply on a 302 without a power adder. There’s folks on forums making 340-350 using the new trick flow 11r heads on a 302 motor but those heads aren’t cheap. A mild 351w can easily make 350hp also but you need a cowl hood and other things that’ll add cost.

Trust me, you do not want to b cam to drive your car in the street. The duration's too wide. You will lose power brake vacuum. Air condition will change every time you accelerate and have to calibrate your mass air. Your best bet is an ecam with 1.7 rockers. You will get tons of performance, lots of bottom end and mid-range power. And also you will not lose any vacuum and do not have to tune any different or change springs and you can put them on your factory E7 heads plain and simple. I hope this helps your decision

Also the only thing the b cam does is sound really good. Make a lot of noise but you have to get the engine revving to about $3,500 RPMs before you start feeling any power. Not good on gas mileage these days. The ecam will give you power right from 1,500 to 6,500

E or B ? nether one really makes more than a few pony's with out the rest of the goodies to go with it. 90% of the guys that buy these cams get them for the idle. They sound good. E cam for auto B cam for the stick. End of story.
