One interesting thing i'm noting that might be to your liking: I did this liquimoly diesel purge to my car, directly hooked up to the engine like you. You call the "return fuel" in this video clean, but let me tell you it's dirty compared to what came out of my car. Which sounds pretty weird, because it's at 400.000km and was someone's daily in Spain, so just an average cheap car, I'm pretty sure it never had a purge before. Obviously in europe our engines didn't get regulated with the emission stuff, but I also think our diesel is extremely clean compared to the US. I wonder which of these two factor the most in that result.

Yes liquimolly diesel Purge is a nice product. I've used it many times.

OM617 oil capacity is 7 liters . My dad had 1981 w123 300D in reed green color over parchment beige leather interior . I heard from many w123 expert that the earlier model (1976 to 1982) are more heavier and the best in term of quality, durability and reliability . But all w123 and w201 still the most over engineered great cars in the automobile history tough. 🇩🇪 PS : I sent you an invitation on FB hope you accept it .

Yeah the oil is around 7 or 8 liters depending on how much you get out. I agree with you, the earlier 1982 and 83 cars are my favorite. In late 83 and 84-85 you started seeing more small items change from metal to rubber and plastic. Cost cutting started. My favorite is the 83 model year.

Great video John, and what a spectacular 300D. Curious about what you would recommend as a lift mechanism for the car when doing oil changes, transmission service, etc. underneath the car. My plan is to get a lift installed but that may not be for a while. Not a fan of jack stands for getting underneath. Do those composite ramps work under those circumstances or do you have other options you’d recommend?
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
These cars are easy to do oil changes on just a standard pair of car ramps will be fine for oil changes. For more custom-made ramps look up a company called race ramps.

@@woodsandbarclay If using wheel cribs, is there a center area of the car where you can lift both tires at the same time to get them under the wheels? I’ve only seen the jack points used so far. Would you need to use two jacks on each side and jack them up at the same time?
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
@@timfetner8029 in the front there is a frame further in from the jack point but in the back the jack point is really all you have.

How do you fill the torque converter?
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
You just fill the transmission from the transmission dipstick like normal. Then you crank the car and drive it forward and backwards a few feet and torque converter will automatically fill up. It's part of the transmission.

Hey can you do a video on how to modify the valve cover so it doesn't leak, mine leak like crazy even with a new gasket.
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
There's no trick or video to make.. you may have over torqued the valve cover or there could be some debris under the gasket that's allowing oil to leak out. only put about 10 or 12 foot pounds on the nuts make sure you don't crank them down too tight. Make sure you clean the surface of the block before you put the new valve cover and gasket on. Also make sure the gasket did not pop out of place or bind.

Hi I have a question I did my transmission fluid and filter replacement after that every time I start it it makes a noise like if something is touch but asoon as I put it in drive or reverse it goes away . It's a 82 td

I'm really not sure what would cause that.

Fuel filter replace?
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
Yes I replaced the pre-filter it already had a new fuel filter on it. Previous owners were driving the car and servicing it and they had already done that.

Didn't know the KKK turbos give more boost.
@woodsandbarclay2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's more boost but they spin up a little quicker so the boost kicks in sooner and it feels a little more powerful.
