The Ball Joint press is a must have tool as far as I'm concerned. I got one back in 99 and only failure I had with it was loaning it out. Somehow the guy actually sprung it out and twisted it out of shape. So #2 from H.F. after having it for few years. The "hammer" trick I learned as a teenager, my added trick is one B.F.H. resting on back side of what your trying to get loose then a solid wack with second hammer on other side. Tie rods, pitman arms, etc.

I suppose for off roading use it’s the best way to go! I had a 95 F350 4x4 with a Dana 60…put a limited slip in it and replaced the ball joints with Moog premium joints! Used that truck plowing for almost 10 years and as a daily driver! I just greased the front end whenever I changed the oil (about every 3-4 months) never had to replace the joints again! Granted I wasn’t out pounding on it out on rocks and bouncing off boulders but living in Michigan has a tendency to be very hard on front end parts…..especially with a 1000# plow hanging off the front! Not saying these replacement ball joint to king pin conversion isn’t a worthy upgrade…just saying Ball joints aren’t that bad if they’re maintained with grease!

I don’t like loaning my tools to SNYONE. They either never get returned (I don’t know what it is about tools, but this is a tool thing) or the person doesn’t know how to properly use the tool and return it worn to shit with creases, scratches or chewed up and dull. I can’t stand that especially because I’m a girl and ever single guy that said they wanted to help me and knew what they’re doing ended up costing me more money and more repairs I do by myself. I watch videos like this and learn things and over watch videos so I know I’m doing it right and what to avoid. Watch enough, someone will mention their mistake or what not to do and I learn from their mistake. Very grateful certified KZbin mechanic❤️

Gonna have to get these when I pick up this dakota next month. 1991 5.2 with 121k miles, but it looks like it hasn't seen 20k miles even. Absolutely mint. It's not even a 4x4 and I don't do any off-roading. It's just that first gen dakotas are notorious for needing to have the ball joints torched out after 150k miles. I'd rather punch them out and never worry about them again. If they can handle off-roading then it can handle daily driving.

hey man if your having problems with bolts. heres an idea for you. grab the outside with vice grips or knipex anything. youd be surprised the grab force they can get when a socket wont. diff cover bolts shouldnt be very tight anyways so its saved my ass on alot of bolts and ac fittings that just rounded off with the right socket or a size down from standard to metric or metric to standard. id find one that almost went on and pounded a socket on and if the head still rounded vice grips or knipex usually saved the day. if they dont you can just drill the head of the bolt just like a rivet. center punch and start small hole to just below the top of the bolt head. then step up bit size and you have a nice stop at depth so you dont take too much off the bolt. drill any stubborn ones off and remove the cover. you now have like 1/8-1/4 inch long studs. they usually just thread out by hand after that but if not you can weld a nut to it and crank away. because the bolt still has some meat you can try many times.. all that added heat can free stuck rust too and separate it from the housing or any hole thats stuck and sooner or later it will come out. cast metal doesnt like to weld so its not gonna really welt it to ur heads. aluminum doesnt weld to steel either so just dont burn it too much. aluminum melts a little easier. but to solve your problem for a good while. buy some longer bolts and a set of nuts for them. or longer studs and 2 sets of nuts for them. hear me out. the bolts are a million times easier. get a little longer than the width of the nuts so say the bolt is 2" long stock. and the nuts for that thread are 1/2 inch wide. get 2 3/4 or 3 inch bolts. run the nut down to the head of each bolt but dont tighten it. prepare diff cover for install. put your bolts in and snug them. they will bottom out. torque to axle specs. run your nuts in till they contact cover. tighten nuts to running gear specs or your preference. and dont worry about it till your axle needs opened up again. but guess what? theres bolt heads and if they piss you off they will protect the nuts. so you loosen the nuts and your cover is loose. just cut off any bad bolt heads before you open the cover obviously. the remaining nut will chase the threads and clean up anything from cutting the head off. replace bolt if youd like or grab 2 new nuts and thread them bad boys on your new stud that you just left in the axle housing if you got the 3 inch bolts. now you see why i said or just get longer studs both are great options and good ways to do it. if you have the clearance studs and just leave the studs in till need for replacement. you could even protect that expensive diff cover with a bash guard or grille at that point too just saying with the bolts or studs.

After considering the cost of these I found this. "Spherical bearings with PTFE Teflon liner and hardware to rebuild your Balljoint Delete System. Expected lifespan of spherical bearings is estimated at 2 years depending on tire size, use, etc. This is a complete kit including replacement locknuts due to the nylock being 25% less effective with each re-use." $199.99 for the set.. Every 2 years huh? I have a 91 Cherokee that has had death wobble for about 10 years but the ball joints lasted for 20+ years UNTIL I let someone borrow my Jeep and they got it stuck and drove around TOWN in 4wheel drive. Every since then, Death Wobble. So Stock ball joints it is I guess. Been subbed for years.. Plan to be subbed for many more, so I guess we will see about these DELETES. lol
