They say some slant sixes get 30 MPG's. What's the last year they made the slant six in a truck? I thought it was 1983 I wonder it it's possible to get 20+ MPG's on a slant six with upgrades like a lighter aluminum performance intake manifold, ignition coils and fuel injection?

But in the US: That's a bit hard to answer, as '87 was the year the Dakota was introduced, with a 3.9L V-6 that was shared across the board with all RWD-model cars, trucks & vans. As for if it ever saw factory EFI: I can only guess "maybe"... as the Mexican versions weren't exactly built under any environmental laws about exhaust emissions that would've required such by then, like in the US.

Sure can't!! I had to drive this truck for about 2 weeks after a tree fell across my F-150 and was in the body shop. I hand calculated the MPG I was getting around town. Mostly 40-45 MPH and some stop and go. Got 17 MPG. Surprised me.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident 87 was the last year for the /6 I think. My dad had an 84 with a /6 and 4 speed. At the same time I had an 89 with a 318 and 727. Hands down I'd choose the /6 and 4 speed over and over. No power, but man it was a neat truck.

Most dependable yes but you can kill one. Apparently they don’t like starting fluid 😂. From now on if it’s too cold I’ll just start up my f150. Carburetors are easier to work on but fuel injection starts up easier when it’s 10 below zero and snowing. Great trucks though. I don’t have a lot of power in my d100 but there’s just something I love about driving it

I know this is an old video but sometimes if the glove compartment doesn't close all the way (too heavy with papers/junk) the light will remain on, even when it's closed. Excellent truck.

One full petal stroke--ONE!--and hold the throttle 1/4-ways open as you're cranking it, and it'll start right-up when dead cold... if it's a factory-tuned engine. And when it's warm: Just push the pedal 1/4-ways down while cranking, and it'll fire-up just fine. Tip: Replace the factory coil with at least an Accel Super Stock, or a MSD Blaster "High-Vibration" coil. The peak KV had with either will make a surprising difference in how it runs. And--if you're willing to go so far--an MSD system will net you gains (20% incrase in mileage, lightning-quick start-up) that'll make you glad to have installed it. Just make sure the plugs are gaped to [Chrysler] factory-stock specs, unless you feel like regaping them every-other weekend. ;)

Hi Adam well its possible that the lack of chrysler paint maybe isolated to my town! Next time your in a parts store there or walmart take a quick look on the automotive paint isle and llet me know what you find.It could be just my town !I also find that chrysler and dodge are not mentioned on the label of transmission fluid only for ford and Gm sadly.Like dodge transmissions don't need fluid LOL

I had posted from a friends chanell sorry i deleted it.But man glad to see that truck running and never feel like its not going to start.Can't beat an old dodge haha.I like your Ford too.But one thing that has allways pissed me off is how dodge stuff has been discriminated on engine paint.Ever try to find dodge or chrysler engine paint .its like finding hens teeth i did buy some 20 years ago.But I can't help but get angry when i see ford red gm blue but nothing at all for my dodge thats crap.

You all are kicking that horse to death with the pedal pumping! Just push it once to set the choke and dont hit the gas again. It will start if it has gas and will fast idle to warm up without even touching the gas pedal. It may take a few seconds to get gas to the dry carb but pumping wont do anything if there is no gas in the carb, likely after 2 months.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident Odds are: Yes... but that's a lot of work, and for what? And 30-mpg? Maybe with a manual trans with an overdrive, in a standard-cab w/short-bed & tonneau cover in stock form... going downhill! ;D I do know this: my '88 4WD Ramcharger EFI 5.2L got a 20% increase in mileage with lightning-quick start-ups when I installed an MSD system, with the plugs gaped to factory-stock specs. The only downside was having to use a heavy-duty cap & rotor, with you can pick-up at any AutoZone.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident If I remember correctly the slant six was an option in the quarter and half ton trucks in 1985. I would never have bought a truck with one for my own use, especially after my father's experience with his 1980 Dodge D-100 (it started burning oil horrendously and needed a ring job at 80K miles) but if my memory serves me correctly it was an option up to at least 1985.
