TheTerminator310 I have a 1981 ram with the slant six also. Eventually I will add performance goodies to it, but I like to refer to it as an, "old man" pickup. Good for daily driving. God bless.

I solved my charging issue at idle with a 120A denso alternator and a matching voltage regulator from a dodge cummins just had an alternator shop install a v belt pulley on it. Basically bolted right on with a fyew bracket mods. Was actually the old alt from my 93 cummins thought it was dead but it was just a relay. If you upgrade the alt you MUST upgrade the power wiere with at least 4awg right to battery. I'm currently rebuilding my slant somehow it's got all it's cross hatch in the cylinders but the 2 and 3 cam berings are demolished. Was planning on a simple cam swap but oh well. Otherwise it ran fine with those bad cam berings.

I feel you, man. My granddad died on December 4th of last year. He had stage 3 aggressive bladder cancer. To put how quick he passed into perspective, they told him he had 4-6 months to live on a Thursday. The following Monday, he was gone.

Sorry to hear that, man. Cancer is definitely no joke. Similar situation happened to my Grandmother 28 years ago. She was bending over to pick up a spoon she dropped and thought she hurt her back when she bent over. Went to the doctor to find out she had an aggressive tumor on her spine and her spine had snapped in half. She passed away 47 days after her diagnosis.

I have a similar case to you man. I have a 1992 Dodge Ram 250 with the cummins 12valve. My grandfathers truck although he’s still alive it does mean a lot more to me than just a truck. Mine has 80k on it and not a spec of rust.

Sounds like the engines in good shape, I wouldn't worry to much about the oil pressure, use a filter with anti flow back if you can find one

I’m sorry for your loss. I recently lost my grandmother back in October. Try some 20W-30 I think that will work.

Thank you. I sent in an oil sample from this truck to a lab for analysis and the wear came back great. So, even though the oil pressure is low to my standards, I think the mains are ok. The truck has been babied its whole life. Oil changes every 2,000-3,000 miles. Has oil pressure in the 55-60 PSI range immediately every time I cold start it.

Oil can plug up the ports and its just like bending a garden hose. You get more preasure even if its really low. Great vid thank you

Oh, you must've stumbled across the thread I made on FTE. So far, no. I believe it is the thottle body clicking. Why it does it, I'm not sure. I've heard of some people fixing it by replacing the throttle body itself. Does not seem to affect performance. Just an odd noise.

Adam I am very sorry to hear about your grand father.My dad will turn 89 july 11th and he has developed dementia from his macular degeneration in his eyes.The month of june has been a awfull heart breaking month I lost 2 of my cats one was barely 2 years old got sick and died suddenly and the other went down fast it was like a night mare and I am too sad.I hope you don't have a main bearing seal start leaking with that increase in oil pressure.Other wise adding that new oil pump gave that slant a new lease in life trust me. That oil sump would only need cleaning probably got some old dried oil in it thats like cake by now but you can clean it shinny like new and your good for another 30 years lol.Aint it wonderfull how those slant oil pumps can be changed from the outside of the motor most all other 6s ford chevy you got to drop that oil pan big job.I remember when my ole dodge had the slant in it I replaced the oil pump easy job.Again sorry about your loss paul

Thanks, Paul. Sorry to hear about your Dad and your cats. I have 2 cats too, as well as a dog. If I lost them right now, I'm not sure what I'd do. And yes, the oil pump design is nice. The only issue I ran into was I could not get the pump to clear the frame, so I was forced to remove the motor mount and jack the engine over to the driver side enough to get clearance. Pulled old oil pump out, put new gasket on the new pump with silicone gasket maker, slid new in. Bolted it down and done. So far I have not noticed any leaks, yet. Speaking of your old Dodge, do you still have it around?

oh the old dodge is sitting in the yard its been back in the winter since I started it and the last try the battery went down since them I charged the battery back up but have not tried.I borrowed the back wheel for my 2007 chrysler town and country van.The old truck needs plugs and alot more the engine is wore out low oil pressure I put a brand new oil pump and seals in it back 4 or 5 years ago not alot of help cause its wore alot bearing wise.. if I use it its in town cause it uses oil blows it out actually blow by is bad..The most I am going to do is get it back running so I can gather firewood for winter.My plans were to put that slant6 that came out of it in my 74 plymouth valiant and take the 318v8 out and put new bearings and seals , rings and put it in my truck but doubtfull if that happens if ever. Hey adam well the speed ometer quit working about 20 or so years ago and I aint got around to fixing it yet.I have no ideal how many miles.The motor is not original it was a slant6 before 1983 when I put the 318 in it.Gave $50.00 at a salvage yard and pulled the engine out of a 63 plymouth car I think it was so long ago.Bought a rebuild kit from jcwhitney ordered it and fix the motor and thats what its running with. you think I got my money worth out of that lol..Oh if you can find jcwhitney they used to sale those manifolds to upgarde to 2 or 4 barrel on slant6. I don't know if they even have them now.

You worry too much! The oil pressure is fine and has enough power. Learn to slow down, how much power do you think you need and noise do you want to make???

Lol, I drive too fast? This is 2023. Highway speed limits aren't 55 anymore. But yes, the truck has just enough power to do what I use it for. And if I need more power, I have my 2007 F-150 with a 5.4 V8, which will yank 3 of these old trucks sideways. On the subject of oil pressure: I'm just not used to seeing single digit oil pressure numbers. But, this video is almost 6 years old and I've learned a lot since this video. Either way, I love these old Dodge's.

I would axe all those emissions hoses going to the vacuum ports on your carburetor. It has no power cause its HP is choked from all the 1980’s smog emission on the engine. Engines of that decade had power losses due to heavy smog controls. About The vacuum ports On your carb. block them off with j&b weld steel stick. Bust out the cat converter you would gain about 40 hp if you got all the emissions off of it. Add the super six intake and exhaust +22hp you would get about 62hp gain. You would fly then at 186 hp or so. Yours with all the smog shit on it is pushing 95hp!!!

Those small upgrades would never give that much power on a Slant. You might get 15 hp from all of that. I do agree though, it needs to be removed. But 186 hp on a Slant 6 is a LOT harder to achieve than you may think.
