another good one! Not much other scooter content on the tube..love to see you going through the old Hondas. I also agree with your approach to always cleaning everything before putting it back together. Eagerly awaiting the next videos in the series!

Hi family, just got a fully functional (Data ST:TNG) 1986 Honda Elite 250 with all gauges working and in loving condition. I got it up to 64 mph today. I'm 300 lbs....

Thanks, a great video of explaining everything as a lot of this applies to my Honda Helix 250 which I did a same complete maintenance service at 22,000 miles, nearly 3 years ago.

Sonofabitch great video. I just bought a 85 250. I’m gonna be going thru the whole scooter so your videos will guide me through the process.

Hey thanks a lot! It seems as if I’ll need all the luck I can get. So I went to pick up my élite today and immediately ran into problems. First off battery was dead, ok no big deal. Then after getting her going, she stalled out on me, and never started up again. Now there’s a nasty sound coming from the motor as it’s turning over, sounds like the motor is cooked. Anyway I’m going to pick it up with a truck tomorrow and bring it home. Is there an email address I can use to ask you some questions.? Please and thank you 🙏

Enjoy the video! I have a question about the swing arm bushing or bolt, I just noticed that I have some play or wobble at that bolt. Do you address that in any videos. Thanks

Great set of videos. Thanks for the great info and tips. I just discovered that my front wheel bearings need replacing. Do you have any videos of replacing bearings? How hard is replacing bearings? It's something I haven't tried before, I don't even have a bearing puller could you recommend one?
@volvo850r3

I did mine in the ch125. Very simple . Actually just popped out and new ones went in smooth and straight with just Pounding on a socket over the bearing

That wiring is wild.. just basic heatshrink and electric tape over it is enough to keep these running safe… I actually took me dr pulley rollers and colored them with a graphite pencil to give them a small Amount of lubrication. I don’t know if anyone else does this
@rubytheelite
@rubytheelite 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly on the wiring! Anything other than what I found being twisted wire with the tape falling off! No lubrication is needed on the sliders at all. I've even spoken directly to employees at Dr. Pulley and they stated NOTHING! Anything you put on them has a chance to end up on your belt.

I replaced my original complete CVT system on my 1996 Honda Helix 250 nearly 3 years ago at 22,000 miles and also replaced the OEM variator rollers with Dr. Pulley 21gram sliders (very lightly coated with PB Blaster dry lube) as I have found from much research that many others do the same. I had to order and assemble everything from scratch using original Honda parts because Honda doesn't sell a complete new driven pulley or variator, and I didn't want to substitute cheap Chinese parts $200 vs $600 OEM which have about 1/3rd the life expectancy, if that. It's really worth the extra cost if you plan on keeping it and don't want to have to replace anything for a long, long time. I've done almost 3 years of riding now without any issues.

Doesn't the cover on the ramp plate allow for heat protection for the items behind it? Wouldn't that be a good reason to keep it in rather than throwing it in the trash?
@rubytheelite
@rubytheelite 9 ай бұрын
The cover was used to prevent grease from leaking from the variator. There is absolutely no reason to keep it on. Also, there is no reason to use any grease, graphite or any other lubricate in the variator. In some bikes, the grease plate can also act as a restrictor, limiting the travel of the variator. I've been removing the cover for more than 25 years without issue.

@@rubytheelite Thanks for the quick reply. I don't doubt your experience, I'll be removing my shield and grease as well. Keep up the great content.

What type of cleaner did you use for around the spark plug, wheel well underneath up the above the tire and brake pads, etc? Thought you said Simple Green?
@rubytheelite
@rubytheelite 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, missed this..... Yes, I use Simply Green Pro HD for my degreaser. Works really well! I also use Brakleen from CRC as my two go to products. Do not use regular Simply Green due to it being corrosive to metals

Instead of relying on others for answers to parts questions utilize hondapartsnation.com. They have a breakdown of all the part numbers of the bike. Also do yourself a favor and buy a service manual.

Sometimes it's a simply overlooked fix like replacing the petcock. Not saying that's your issue but I put a new one on every old bike I restore. Since you didn't mention it that's where I would start.

Check for cracks in the rubber boot between the carburetor and engine. Also will it fire with a puff of either?
@rubytheelite
@rubytheelite 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dave.O Yes, the intake manifold has been known to fail on these bikes. My next video is replacing it on both the CN250 and CH250. Both bikes backfire. Another common issue with this shared motor of the Elite 250 and Helix. It also doesn't help that both my bikes have Chinese carbs! Those are coming out as well replacing with rebuilt original carbs!
