Just Recently purchased one of this through a Trade. Own a 2009 Shadow VT750C Spirit. My Self found the Bike hard to handle. The 85 Shadow Apparently had the Carburetor's Rebuilt. But as you said in your Video. Obviously they didn't know about the secondary Fuel Tank. CVC Carburetor's were a mess. But after a bit of time . Was able too finally have it Running and Idling in the driveway. Thank's for your knowledge. But it's alot handling Bike. And still enjoying it. Thank's Kimbo.

Lol I'm working on my 1984 VT750C Shadow tonight! I'm taking the carbs out to clean lol...yes I am.. love it! I own 2 actually...an 83 and 84 750... my 83 is kinda rough on running black... my red 84 is almost mint.... almost. Oh forgot to mention I'm in Canada so we have 750cc engines. Fun fact, back in the 80's I rode my 500 Shadow I had out to Vancouver from Ontario and back... zero issues and comfy.

I have both vt500 83 and vt750 84.. witch one you find faster?
@RogerDiotte7 ай бұрын
@@sfyostranger2217 The 750, I recall the FIRST day I got it back in 1999 and how much more meatier it was in both tone and it's top end. The 500 I used to seem to crank it up off the start quicker though, likely it's weight to horsepower ratio! Oh and I just finished restoring this 84 Shadow yesterday, new Clutch plates, low fuel light sensor, rejetted and sync'd, Master and Slave Clutch rebuild, electrical fixed.

@sfyostranger2217 Smoked 🚬 it right on lol lol lol...XT kind of nice at least the old ones I remember! Ya the style of the old Shadows in the 80's and the Magna were always and still the bikes that tug at my heart... I feel really lucky to have 2 750's and I'm going to start restoring my other Black 83 one this summer...

You got lucky on yours. Most folks cut these VT's to fish bait. The fuses on earlier models were atop the bars, not under the idiot lights. Same with the fuel tank. It used to be gravity feed till owner's griped about capacity, so Honda added the extra liter auxiliary and electric fuel pump with switch. The clutch and brake reservoir sight windows are acrylic, normally shrinking from fluid exposure. They are 18mm, and cost a couple of buck a piece. If you haven't done the yoke bearings and the seals in the forks, along with the bearings and bushings in the rear swing arm you will find it doesn't handle well, but hard compound tires may often do the same. Just little piddly things in all, like the corroded connections on that front blinker. Get you a gel pack for the seat. Most folks rest on their tailbone too much, and that addition will end that pesky trouble. Stay safe, and be well.

Great info. Just bought an 85 vt700c that's been sitting for years. Bad carbs, runs, but needs to be gone through. What you mentioned about bearings, seals,and bushings is great info I had overlooked. Thank you. Cheers from Wisconsin.

A couple guys in my neighborhood bought two of these when they first came out. They tore around on them. They were a very cheap no frills bike at the time. SHAFT EFFECT, is major on them. haha! One hit a moose. Destroyed the bike and almost killed the rider. The other rusted away. I don't think I ever saw them being ridden casually. It was either doing burnouts, or trying to cat walk. haha.

It is the same engine that goes on the numerous bikes like the transalp, africa twin, ntv revere, deauville, bross and few others. But the VT 500 is the only one with 6 gears and the Deauville is the only other with shaft drive. Newer shadows to a point are shearing the same engine. I had 3 transalps.. All perfect mechanically but with issues with the twin spark's cdi ignition modules.. An old friend still have the VT 500 but the carburetor's membranes are cracked.. Due to age.. Fantastic bike otherwise. That engine variation is retired since late 2000's and replaced by the new 270° parallel twins in most new hondas

The upper tank holds almost all the fuel. The lower tank is the reserve. It holds less than one gallon.

This was my bike in the mid 90’s to 2002ish…. Beautiful bike, but not at all comfortable on the highway. Great bike I’d love to have again, nevertheless.
