You will never see this type of college basketball ever again. Brent and Packer are legendary announcers. CBS crew in all sports back then top all time.

One of the greatest upsets in tournament history along with N.C. State's upset victory over Houston. Which brings up the questions which victory and tournament run is the greatest: NC State or Villanova. I say NC State's run was the greatest because they had to win the ACC tournament just to make the NCAA tournament field of 52. And they had overcome a talented and loaded Houston team, which they only had 1 day to prepare. Villanova played Georgetown 2 times in which they were close games but it is hard to beat team 3 times and Nova knew Georgetown very well and played a perfect game. I love both upsets but I give the nod to The 1983 NC State Wolfpack.

Villanova did play a perfect game. Did anyone know Nova took only 10 field goals in the second half making 9 of them. They shot an amazing 79% for the entire game. Georgetown played and shot the ball well making 55% of their shots. Villanova wasn't to be denied that night 4/1/1985.

Probably best offensive halfcourt title game ever by Villanova ....this was a huge upset but Villanova played gtown tough in 85. Gtown was a monster team on d with Ewing

If for Micheal Jordan shot in 1982 NCAA championship and upset by Villanova Wildcats in 1985 game, Patrick Ewing wouldve won 3 NCAA championships.that would be awesome like Lew Alcindor

@@seanfelder3286 Ewing was a monster at gtown and came really close to 3 rings

Villanova had a very good team. I dont think this was as big an upset as we think. Look at some of the players Villanova had. Dwayne McClain, Gary McLain, Ed Pinckney, Harold Pressley, Harold Jenson,

Dan Livni Not to mention they played Georgetown tough in two regular season games, therefore they were not intimidated.

Probably the greatest NCAA Division I National Title Game Upset ever. NC State beating Houston two years earlier is the only other one that comes even close to this one.

That graphic at 1:19:15 is absolutely insane. Georgetown is shooting over 50% FG, which would win 95% of the games they played in. But Villanova is shooting around 80% for the game at this point. And they're doing it by making tough shots.

Hard to beat a team 3 x in a season. Villanova was 1-2 that year against Gtown. They won the 1 that counted. We've gone on to win 2 more too GO NOVA!!!

The college game was so different from the NBA game at that time. In college their was no shot clocks or 3 point baskets and you were permitted to play zone.

This was the last chance to play a game this style before the shot clock came in the next year. Villanova got lucky there.

So weird cause this past Saturday, I heard the national radio broadcast of this game. On a Wisconsin sports radio station, still a classic!

One of the great upsets and great games of all time. Villanova played the perfect offensive game, and was able to win despite glaring oversights of obvious fouls like the shove at the end of the first half, and this one at 1:32:20.

1:44:35 Canon T-70 wow! I can’t image anything more sleek to hold What a look into the future, how were they so advanced? Canon T70 was a breakthrough product like the original iPhone. Why was Georgetown sitting and watching on the bench after the game? Weird.

@Brandon Morris Yep. I dunno if you were around when this game was played, but as a kid from the Greater Boston area, this game had the hype and cache of MAYBE a handful of bball games in NCAA history. The game tension was just unreal with this game. Ewing was from the Boston-area (Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS), and the hype surrounding Ewing was about as great as ANY player in HS history. Then he went on to star for those great Georgetown Hoyas teams, which had a VERY intimidating presence about them. So for Villanova to beat the defending champs was as great a storybook ending as the NCAA has ever seen.

NCAA AND the corporate machine did NOT like this outcome. Therefore, the shot clock the VERY next year. When I stopped watching college basketball.
@furnitureconsortium4 жыл бұрын
That conspiracy theory would hold water.....were it not for Billy Packer already bringing the fact of the shot clock up halfway through the game. They had to put the clock in....you want 30-28 final scores like it's 1956? Even worse off, you want a team throwing the ball around for the last five minutes of a game, not taking a shot? Had to be done
@alanlinnebur31394 жыл бұрын
That was decided before this game. Stated a couple times during the broadcast. Not much of an attention span, eh... or some ax to grind?

Didn't bother G'town this game, but yeah...nowadays you'd say ten seconds is a lot of time, but then, if you don't score in about 4 seconds, the games is over (unless you "accidentally" swat the ball into the crowd).

At the 41:37 mark that was a definite cheap shot by Williams to Everson. Thar should've been a technical foul that wasn't called. That got Nova fired up for the 2nd half and you can see the emotion come out of Daddy Mass at the 42:02 mark. He was just as fired up as the players and fans. That's when you knew that this was gonna be Nova's night.

I feel like Patrick Ewing is the LEAST clutch basketball team player of all time. GREAT player, but often underperforming when it counts the most. Sorry Knicks fans!

Hey thanks for asking that please??!

Villanova had a great defensive plan...double and triple teams everytime. Nothing you can do about that but play the read game and pass when you have to. Also I am a Knick since before Ewing and I beg to differ on him being clutch. Too bad there were a few superstars who were in their prime at the same time Jordan was. People forgot that he was playing on one leg when he missed the finger roll against Pacers...not enough lift to dunk it.

Bradley really remember this.ln his illustratious career with NY Knicks in 15 years, Ewing never had 2nd superstar to get him nba championship.had Bernard King not been injuries trust me.he and Patrick Ewing would have got 2 championships for NY Knicks
