I went to the '83 race when Eddie won his first Superbikers race. I was in the Navy stationed is San Diego and made the trip up to Carlsbad to see one of the best races I had ever seen! I wish they had full HD quality DVD's of this race series for sale. I would love to see the 1979 and 1980 races.

@@dommelschivy1042 you missed the whole point I was trying to get across. Of course there are European supermoto series that are going on. But I want to see a format like the old "superbikers" race where you get to see the top names in different areas of motorcycle racing compete. I would have loved seeing Marc Marquez race against Eli Tomac and other top guys!

Carlsbad raceway was my home track. Raced mx, Grand Prix, vintage mx and drag raced there from the 70’s into the 2000’s.

I used to go to this event regularly, including that year I believe. I remember the first year Lawson won, and the motocross guys were spooked as soon as they saw him in practice. I didn't personally hear it, but it was Bob Hannah I think who reportedly muttered while timing Danny Chandler's lap times, "Magoo's in trouble" after seeing Lawson's speed. Danny was the defending champ I think, but Eddie smoked everyone. I can remember Lawson and Rainey going side by side and hanging all over each other in their heat, and that was probably the year of this video, 1985. Got pics somewhere.

I think the Hannah quote was from '83 when Lawson won Superbikers the first time. Everyone thought Magoo would be untouchable that year. Eddie should have won '84 as well, but his bike's transmission locked up on the sighting lap, he didn't get to start the race!
