What a great play-by-play of the '85 Daytona 500 and an era at Petty Enterprises that does not get a lot of attention! By the summer of '85, Richard Petty was already laying the groundwork to come back because his deal with Mike Curb blew up in his face. Thank you gentlemen!

Wow!! I had completely forgotten about your Daddy & that Brooksy driven car! Ol' Brooks didn't have much luck at Daytona, but he almost alway's seemed to be really good there, Dega too, just bad luck alway's seemed to get him at both those track's. 1 was born in 67 I'd head I'm sure what happened with Mike Curb but I've always thought petty exept for Dale Inman never broke up. Shows how much I listened back then. Speaking of tractors when Stapleton 42 toured museum. A Dodge single axle cab over bobtail I'm guessing 72 model still sits behind petty enterprise. I'm sure it cost more to restore than it's worth. But I'd really like to purchase it get it running not road worthy. Drive and use around my farm. Love the old Dodge COE tractors. That's a hunk of history sitting there out in the open. Shame, it pulled some of the best cars all over the country.

Enjoying hearing these stories. Remember the one car with you guys and your dad with Brooks driving. Somewhere in this time period. I had heard rumor that Sam Ard possibly was going to drive the 1 also .

that car i believe just surfaced. Blackie Wangerin's T-bird just sold on facebook. Which i believe i had heard was that car. After Bobby Allison bought it?

Maybe you guys would know the answer to something that I've always wondered about. It had to be the early 80's, maybe 82-83. I was at the Riverside race where I was able to get up and close to the 43 car. It must have been a Monte Carlo or Buick. The thing that stood out to me was, the 43 was literally an old "UNO" car that had been painted over in Petty blue/Day glow. They hadn't even removed the UNO decals, they just painted over them. I believe this was Richards back-up car for the weekend, he didn't use this car in the race. Would any of you know where that car came from or how it became? Was this normal for PE to buy cars from other teams?

UNO was Kyle's sponsor back then, so it was a back up car that they renumbered to #43. It had the same STP based paint scheme, and had the #1

Morgan Shepherd drove the Buddy Arrington Chrysler Imperial to a 15th place finish. It was the only Mopar to arrive in Daytona!!

Can you tells us about the motors from The '70s until the early '80s love to hear about small displacement wedge motor that you're father took to I think the 71 Riverside race and NASCAR said don't ever bring it back. And also love to hear about the small block Mopar and how you kept the heads on it I was told that you all put another head bolt in the block to keep the head down.

Was this car a old 43 from 83 because King had Buddy parrot go down and pick up a couple of old cars the 200 win car was old 83 kp Pontiac the curb guys after the 500 they put new fenders on the car and a guy who work for him has a front bumper piece that he send it through and it's got orange and green paint on it from 83 711 deal Buddy parrot said that the 200 win car was a really good piece because they had different fronting geometry on those cars kind of like 28 car cale ran with it was called a low scrub car that that Greg Sachs ended up buying and winning the 85 500 with
