Wow. You are wearing my t-shirt. Drive the classic. Nice. Thank you and best regards. Lukas

I think the repair for a 40+ classic is excellent, well done and don't be too hard on yourself about the result.

Looks great as far as leveling. I have a good dash to go in my car so I may have the old one wrapped in leather when I swap them out.

Thank you Russ. You've been a big part in the project. We're going to do it.

There is a low point in every car restoration when something is just a real PITA….but well done for carrying on! With hindsight maybe a used dash from Europe might have been the answer for your issue. Your videos still inspire others to crack on so thanks again for sharing your project. Super excited to see it started up and back on the road soon.

Thank you. I appreciate the words of encouragement and really appreciate that you've been following the project or found this particular video. I'm working hard to a start very soon - if it fires up it will be a miracle. I really want to make this my daily driver again.

You can restore the faded bumpers with a heatgun. Instant result.

I was wondering when you were going to get to the dash. I have an '83 and used the same kit to try to repair my cracks. I came to about the same conclusion as you. Its a lot of work and while the cracks are gone now I am not super happy with the finish. For me its mostly the texture. So I just put the mat back on but I kinda wish I never touched it in the first place. Love the channel and the progress on the car!
@ParksandRecYT5 ай бұрын
Yep, I agree. Doesn't look too bad with the mat on. And, the process reinforced the conclusion that I'm not going to be an auto body guy. Respect to the craftsman that make it look easy, because its not.

Your dash was way more cracked than mine. I put a nice thin dash cover on it and haven’t looked back. No way I’d spend the time for that result. (No offense). Driving mine puts me in such a good mood. Just did another 1000 mile round trip to Helen GA. Missed the VW meet up by a week. Oh well. Keep us the super vids. I’ll be adding new F/R swaybars soon. Cheers brother!

Thanks! I need to get this car running and out of the garage so I can put my new acquisition inside. I'm motivated to get those cylinders firing.

Yeaaah, knowing how I tend to screw up with any fluids like paint that require some finesse, I would not want to tackle this unless I had a spare and didn't care. Bravo to you for the effort and documenting it though. I'm betting the splotchy parts will be muted once that thing is installed back in the car, especially when much of it will end up being covered by the dash mat anyway. I'm thinking you still got the hardest part out of the way with the crack filler stage, and if you really really wanted, you could revisit the painting at some point in the future. But I totally get wanting to move on with buttoning that car back up and god forbid... driving it.
@ParksandRecYT5 ай бұрын
It was definitely an adventure and tested my patience.

@@ParksandRecYT Forgot to mention, but as an additional protective measure, specifically against damaging UV light, I've had good luck with a periodic application of 303 Aerospace Protectant spray on the dashes, plastic, and vinyl areas of my cars.

Ive to do litrally everything youve done to mine 😂 its a 1982 gt with the 1.6 injection engine, single windshield wiper and equal size double front headlights. Ive never seen another like it, its gold with from what i can work out on line is a BBS body kit but i could be wrong on that 😂
