Just used your one-person emergency brake cable trick on my 92 Cabriolet and it worked like a charm. I accidentally put the adjustment wedge in facing backwards and had to disassemble the whole thing to flip it. It was the only part I didn't take a "before" picture of. Thanks for the help.

Nice! Glad it worked for you!

This is my new favorite channel. I just bought a 1992 Cabriolet with its own issues. I'm not the best mechanic but I can turn a wrench and these videos give me hope.

Thanks! I'm not a mechanic either but I've learned a lot along the way and know if I muck something up, I can always pay to get it fixed. I enjoy the satisfaction of learning something new and doing it myself. I appreciate your comments!

Started work on my drums today. Bought a tool to hammer the bearing races in. Worked great. Will do shoes next week. This video will help me.

Świetny film. Dziękuję, bez niego było by mi ciężko rozebrać oryginalne szczęki w moim 33 letnim Scirocco :)

Another great video. Everything clearly explained. I am now motivated to refurbish the brakes on my Scirocco!

Most excellent! If can do it, anyone can do it! I'm sure it will go well! Front brakes coming soon.

I would gladly share your video with Sciroccos' owners, however, I do not know any other as the place where I live for past at least 15 years I didn't see any other except my example. These cars are one step from antique.

love the videos they remind me of my old scirocco. when I did my brakes I went inside the disconnected the parking brake lines and attached them to the shoes when I re installed then went back in and retightened them after everything. also used a greese packing tool.

Thanks so much for stopping by - I know brakes are not the most interesting of topics to spend 27 minutes of your life on. You make a great point about the parking brake that I did not think about and it makes a lot of sense. I thought about the grease packing tool but could not pass up the utter mess of doing it by hand. Especially when it looked like I just murdered someone afterwards - lol. I'm so glad my Dad kept the Scirocco so that I could work on it now. I just wish I had the foresight to let him know I would have wanted to work on the old GMC pickup too, but its long gone. Anyway, I appreciate the comment and support. Take care.

Great video but there is one bit you didn't show on reassembly which is the bit I am stuck on - The lower return spring ! How did you get that back on as I have tried for hours to no avail :-(

I heard new gas tanks don’t have the baffling the original tanks have, which can have an issue of stalling under hard turns. Is this true? That is why on my MK1 scirocco I still have my original tank. I saw also a rear brake conversion to rear disc brake system. I’m considering doing this to mine.

Not sure on the baffling - that would definitely be an issue. Thanks for bringing that up

On the left rear wheel, the brake piston on the left of the cylinder as you look at it, the front side, needs twisting 180 degrees, so that the tang on the piston head is on the outside of the drum, away from the backplate, so that it prevents the brake shoes from dislocating. Check out the vid at position 22:00, and compare it to the old cylinder at position 15:24. Both tangs on the old one line up. Sorry dude, you'll have to remove the shoes again 😞

Sharp eye! The cylinder is certainly rotated the incorrect direction on the video, however I recall catching that detail after I was done filming and corrected it before final assembly. One of those film it then REALLY check it twice situations. Appreciate the catch!

Missed opportunity to fit mk2 golf discs on the back instead of drums

Not at all. Looking for a 24v 2.8l VR6 swap. Then I'll deal with the rest. Patience grasshopper. Let's get this girl running. I'm just getting started.
