This video is Part 19 of a multi-part restoration series of my original 1985 VW Scirocco that sat idle for 15+ years (see Part 1 - The Backstory). In this video I show how to replace the oil cooler and wonder which MkII's actually have one. Please consider Subscribing to help grow my channel! I thank you.

Following this build religiously! I’m currently restoring an 84 cabby. Any news where to get the fuel system parts from your previous vid? RIP MK1 auto haus :(

Thanks - I appreciate it. My go-to parts places are AutohausAZ, PartsPlaceInc, RockAuto, and sometimes HeritagePartsCentre or Classic Parts UK. For one offs I go to FCP Euro or Techtonics Tuning. Hope you can find what you need. Yep, I dont have a good feeling about Mk1. Good luck on your resto!

My oil cooler went and I’ve got a coolant system full of oil. Thankfully doesn’t look like much, if any, coolant in the oil. Not fun

Great video as usual. Been planning to replace the oil cooler on my GTX for some. Will do at next oil change. My next job is gear linkage bushes bushes at currently far too much play. Will take some photos. Keep the videos coming. 👍

Hi D. Great vid as always. Incidentally, some of the Eruo spec Scirocco's did have the same cooler. That said, my 1983 1.6 GL does not have this. Not sure what the criteria is, perhaps VW thought the Gti spec would be driven harder and faster thus needing one? Keep em coming! 👍🇬🇧

Starting to re-examine my own 85 scirocco that I've had sitting engineless for the past 20 plus years..bought a lot of parts years ago but still need the engine compartment parts.. these videos are tremendous inspiration and information that I need. Planning on 16v brake upgrade as I did get parts for that. Just ultrasonic bathed some of these parts..I do have the cooler and will get to cleaning that soon.

That is awesome! I hope you find the time and energy to get your 85 back on the road. I have to say this project was extremely overwhelming when I started, but I've learned a lot, have not found much (yet) that I could not do and it is extremely satisfying when a job is done. Its kind of like saying "how do you build a pyramid?".....one block at a time. Best of luck on your project! And thanks for watching my series!

@@ParksandRecYT ya I feel that's exactly where I'm starting as well.. cleaning any part i can and laying them out so I can determine where they go..mostly bolts are the real issue to know the locations and to replace the ones damaged like my starter bolts are. Will be a slow process but hopefully just as rewarding as you are going through here. The car belonged to my dad before I bought it in the 90s. Rust free and equipped with all the suspension and other options one would want.

Parker's been occupied with school, a variety of video games, and our electric bikes. The pandemic put a squash on our travels, but we've got a trip lined up in a few months. Thanks for asking!
