19インチモニターを3つ並べた迫力の画面構成とボディソニック内蔵のベンチシート、ヘッドオン端子付きという専用筐体で登場したシューティング作品。突如来襲した謎の異星人ベルサーの手により壊滅状態となった惑星ダライアスから、新たなる居住地を求め旅立つという設定。3画面の迫力もさることながら、体中に響くボディソニックによる演出効果も見逃せない。各ステージの最後に「WARNING」の文字と共に、およそ1画面分もある魚型巨大戦艦が出現する。次に進むコースを選べる点、各場面にマッチしたBGM、独自のパワーアップシステムなど、全体的に非常に完成されている。巨大戦艦は全部で26体登場する。
ストーリー:
かつては高度な科学力と独自の文明を誇った惑星ダライアスも、ある日突如として来襲した謎の異星人「ベルサー」の手により、今ではすっかり死の星と化してしまった。住人の大半は死に絶え、生き残ったのは地下シェルターに待避した難をまぬがれたごくわずかの人々であった。そしてベルサーの最後の攻撃が今始まろうとしていた...。

A horizontally scrolling shoot-em-up that was unique at the time for featuring a game screen that was three times wider than the conventional size, with the arcade cabinet utilizing three CRT screens to accommodate it.
Power-ups can be obtained by shooting enemies of a certain color, with the power-ups appearing in the form of colored bubbles. Each color corresponds to one of the ship's three weapons :
* Red - Missile
* Green - Bomb
* Blue - Arm
If the player powers up a weapon more than seven times, the weapon changes to a new, more powerful version. This then becomes the player's default weapon, and can be powered up further. There are also two other colors of power-up bubble, white and orange; which can be obtained by shooting at certain sections of the terrain; unfortunately, there are no visual clues as to where these may be on any given level. These hidden power-ups offer the following :
* White - Gives a score bonus.
* Orange - Smart bomb that kills all on-screen enemies.

Well lad, yes... From what I could research the first release in the JPN arcade was in ´86, now in other region's releases "the US came in 1987", using Google to see this was tricky, I used the Darius fandom and the Nintendo Store release date as "fact", the wiki may be wrong, since it is a wiki", but I will trust on Nintendo Store. [Trivia Part] One thing that marked this classic Shmup "aside from the beautiful Silver Hawk; Routes using alphabet plus various routes with unique endings; Enemies looking like fish; Power up mechanics and the Shield" is the peculiar and iconic arcade cabinet that used on that period, It utilized clever "mirror" techniques/tricks with the screen "on the sequel of this game, Darius2 got some cabinets got the iconic triple screen and other dual screen, this game was also called Sagaia in the Mega Drive/Genesis us port". I wish that I could see this game in action [IRL], but regardless, this is an amazing Shmup considering that time, I dare say better than the OG Gradius. *.... これ、GoogleChromeで見ると途中画面と音声が微妙にズレが生じるんだけど、何が原因なんだろ?

I liked zone S better than R. The thing with R is, everything is in front, just ready to be targeted, so it's the cheapest level in the 6th column.
